DDSL Presentations

The DDSL Annual Presentation of Awards 2008/09 was held at the Red Cow Moran Hotel on Sunday 21st June. Belvedere F.C. were presented with four trophys: SFAI Under 14 Goodson Cup, DDSL Under 16 Premier League Trophy, FAI Under 17 Cup and DDSL Under 17 Premier League Trophy. Belvedere also received beaten finalist medals for the Under 15 Conway Cup and Under 16 Paul McGrath Cup.

Belvedere Claim Under 17 Premier League Title

Belvedere have added the DDSL Under 17 Premier League title to their recent FAI Under 17 Cup success to complete a great double for 2008/09. Undefeated in the league this season, Belvedere claimed the title ahead of their nearest rivals Home Farm. Congratulations to all the players, managers and coaches on a great achievement.

FAI Under 17 Challenge Cup Victory for Belvedere

At Tolka Park on Sunday 24th May, Belvedere won the FAI Under 17 Challenge Cup Final with a 3 - 1 victory over  Kilmallock United from Limerick. Trailing 1 - 0 at the break, Belvedere produced a great second half come back to score three goals, with a brace from captain Paul Corry, and a third from striker David Lodola. To round off a great day for Belvedere, Paul Corry was awarded the man of the match trophy.

Belvedere Win SFAI National Under 14 Goodson Cup 

Belvedere are SFAI National Under 14 Goodson Cup Champions following their 1 - 0 win over Home Farm at Frank Cooke Park on Thursday 21st May. Hero of the day for Belvedere was Adam Evans who scored the all important goal midway through the first half. Belvedere produced a great team performance and were deserving winners on the night. Indeed, with some better finishing they might have won by a greater margin.

Republic of Ireland International Debut Presentation 

Twenty Belvedere players have made their international debut for the Republic of Ireland at Schoolboy level in the last few years. Its been a tradition with Belvedere Football Club to recognise this great achievement by making a presentation to each player. The presentation was made after the memorial match at Whitehall on Tuesday 3rd March 2009. Congratulations to to all the players involved.

Gary Burke is Belvedere Player of the Year 2007/08

Congratulations to Gary Burke who was named Belvedere Player of the Year 2007/08. Gary was presented with his award following the memorial match at Whitehall on Tuesday 3rd March 2009. Well done also to Darragh Lenihan who won the Belvedere Young Player of the Year award.

Belvedere Honour Noel O'Reilly 

There was a great turnout at Whitehall on Tuesday 3rd March 2009 as Belvedere and Elizabethtown College from Pennsylvania USA played in a memorial challenge match in honour of former Belvedere and Republic of Ireland coach the late Noel O'Reilly.

Noel O'Reilly.....The Most Remarkable Character I ever met

Some very thoughtful and sincere words have been written in the newspapers, broadcasted on the television and radio and posted on websites over the last few days about the late Noel O'Reilly who sadly passed away on Friday 26th September 2008. But no doubt, the appreciation by Vincent Butler which appeared in the Irish Independent on Saturday 27th September will be hard to match.

Noel O'Reilly.......Never to be Forgotten

From the earliest days of his involvement in 1971, Noel O'Reilly made a massive contribution to the development and success of Belvedere Football Club as both a manager  and coach before moving to the FAI in 1999 to work alongside Brian Kerr. Belvedere Chairman Fergus McCabe recalls some fond memories of Noel.

Barker and Burke Included in Republic Ireland Under 17 Squad 

Belvedere Under 16's players Michael Barker and Graham Burke were both involved in the Republic of Ireland Under 17 squad who defeated Hungary in two friendly internationals on Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th February 2010.  This was the Irish squad's final warm-up for the Under 17 UEFA Championship elite phase qualifiers taking place in Greece from 19th - 24th March 2010.

 Portugal Tournament for Republic of Ireland Under 16 

The Republic of Ireland Under 16 squad head off from Dublin on Tuesday 2nd February to play in a four nation tournament at Albufeira in Portugal. Ireland will play Italy, Netherlands and the hosts Portugal over a 5 day period. Manager John Morling has named a 20 man squad for the tournament including Belvedere Under 15's Kealan Dillon and Eoin Hyland.

Billy Byrne R.I.P.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of William ( Billy ) Byrne on Monday 25th January 2010. Billy was a great supporter of Belvedere Football Club. His son Damien was a successful manager with Belvedere, while his grandson Philip also enjoyed great success playing with the club, before going on to play in the League of Ireland. We extend our sympathies to Damien and Philip and all the Byrne family on their sad loss. May he rest in peace.

DDSL Under 16 Squad Travel to Play in South Africa

The DDSL Under 16 squad traveled to South Africa on Saturday 23rd January to take part in the 2010 Gauteng Future Champions Tournament. Seven Belvedere players: Michael Barker, Patrick Seery, Hugh Douglas, James Kavanagh, Graham Burke, Chris Lyons and Craig Hanlon were among the 18 players from the league given the opportunity to experience the trip of a lifetime.

Cahilane Announced as Leinster GAA Player of the Year

Former Belvedere and Celtic player, Paul Cahillane, has this week been announced as the AIB Leinster Senior GAA Player of the Year. This is an incredible achievement as Paul is in only his first year in Senior Football. Many congratulations are sent to Paul from everyone at Belvedere F.C.

Belvedere Managers Match Ends in a Draw

The Oscar Traynor Centre was the venue again this year on Saint Stephens Day for the 2009 annual Belvedere managers and friends match. Not deterred by the freezing conditions on the day, this fixture once again brought together many Belvedere legends of the game.

Four Belvedere Under 15 players: Kealan Dillon, Eoin Hyland, Darragh Lenihan and Adam Evans were part of the The Republic of Ireland Under 16 squad who traveled to play Israel in two friendly internationals this week.

Eight Belvedere Players in Ireland Under 15 Squad 

The Republic of Ireland will play Wales and Northern Ireland  in the Celtic Tri-Nations Tournament in Cardiff, Wales over the weekend of May 15/16 2009. Manager John Morling has named a 36 man squad for the tournament including eight Belvedere players: Lee Brandon, Kealan Dillion, Adam Evans, Eoin Hyland, Darragh Lenihan, Ryan Matthews, John McKeown and Pierce Sweeney. Ireland will play Wales and Northern Ireland in ‘A’ and ‘B’ matches over the weekend.

Belvedere players Tom O'Halloran and Sean Skelly have been named in the Republic of Ireland Under 17 squad for the double friendly internationals with Poland on Tuesday 21st and Thursday 23 April 2009. Corry and Howard in Republic of Ireland Under 18 Squad

The Republic of Ireland Under 18's play Cyprus in two friendly internationals in Larnaca on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th April. Belvedere's Paul Corry and Shane Howard are selected in the 18 man traveling squad. Also included are three former  Belvedere players: Jimmy Keohane (Wexford Youths), Lee Dixon (Bohemians) and Chris Kerr (Drogheda United).

Maloney and Sheridan Play for Ireland Under 21's

Former Belvedere players, Brendan Moloney  ( Nottingham Forest ) and Cillian Sheridan ( Celtic, on loan to Motherwell ) played for the Republic of Ireland Under 21 in their recent 2 - 1 win over Spain in Waterford on Thursday 27th March and in the 3 - 0 defeat by Turkey at Turners Cross, Cork on Tuesday 31st March 2009.

France Prove Too Strong for Ireland Under 16's 

The Republic of Ireland played France in two Under 16 friendly internationals at the Oscar Traynor Centre, Dublin on Tuesday 10th and Thursday 12th March 2009. France proved to be too strong for their hosts, winning 3 - 0 on Tuesday and 5 - 2 on Thursday.  Belvedere's John O'Sullivan, Daniel Mahon and Chris Lyons were part of Manager Vincent Butler's 21 man squad and played in both matches.

Three Belvedere Players in Ireland Under 15's 

The Midland Under 15 International Tournament was held last week from 10th - 13th February 2009 involving Belgium, Lithuania, Latvia and Ireland. Three Belvedere Under 14's players Kealan Dillon, Adams Evans and Eoin Hyland were named in new manager John Morling's 18 man squad. Ireland defeated Lithuania on Tuesday, drew with Latvia on Wednesday before losing to the eventual Tournament winners Belgium

Under 21 Debuts for Maloney and Sheridan

Tony Gregory R.I.P.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Tony Gregory TD on Friday 2nd January 2009,  following a long illness. A good friend to Belvedere Football Club down through the years, Tony was a fearless advocate for fairness and justice, and he will be sadly missed by all in the North Inner City.

 DDSL Retain Gerry Donnelly Cup

Belvedere Under 17's represented the DDSL in the annual Youths Challenge Match with the Belfast & District Secondary Schools Football Assocation played in Belfast on Wednesday 14th January 2009 for the Gerry Donnelly Cup. The DDSL won 1 - 0 thanks to Shane Howard's second half goal.

Managers' Match Goes to Penalties

Billed by some as the football event of the year, the Annual Belvedere Managers match was played at the Oscar Traynor Centre on Saint Stephen's Day 2008. As usual, this hotly contested encounter brought together some old "legends of the game" to do battle for the honours. The match was decided on a penalty shoot out after a 2 - 2 draw.

Bon Voyage Darragh

Belvedere coach Darragh O'Reilly has decided to take a year out and travel to the Far East and Australia. A popular assistant with the current Belvedere Under 17's team, he was given the perfect send off by the players on Sunday 7th December 2008, with a 2 - 0 win away to Shamrock Rovers, to remain on top of the table. Bon voyage to Darragh  in his travels and best wishes from all in Belvedere.

Paul Corry Named in Republic of Ireland Under 18 Squad

Belvedere Under 17's captain Paul Corry has been named in the Republic of Ireland Under 18 squad for the Limoges four -nation friendly tournament in France from October 26th - November 2nd 2008. Former Belvedere player Danny Joyce ( Reading) is also included in the squad. Ireland will play Serbia on Tuesday, France the hosts on Thursday and finally Denmark on Saturday November 1st.

Seven Belvedere Players in Republic of Ireland Under16's

The Republic of Ireland  played Northern Ireland in two Under 16  friendly internationals on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st October 2008 at Whitehall, Dublin. The first match ended even at 3 - 3, while the visitors won the second 3 - 1. Belvedere's Neil Byrne, Daniel McMahon, John O'Sullivan and Chris Lyons all played in the first match on Monday, while their club team mates Michael Barker, James Kavanagh and Dean Smith played in the second match on Tuesday.

Ireland Under 16's Bounce Back Against Turkey

On Thursday 16th October 2008 the Republic of Ireland Under 16's bounced back to win 4 - 2 over Turkey at Bolu. The Turks had won the first of the two international friendlies 4 - 0 on Tuesday, so Ireland did really well to reverse the result in the second match. Irish Manager Vincent Butler brought an 18 man squad to Turkey, including Belvedere Under 15's James Kavanagh and John O'Sullivan.

Skelly in Republic of Ireland Under 17 Squad

Belvedere Under 16's Sean Skelly has been named in the Republic of Ireland Under 17 squad for the double friendly internationals away to Bulgaria in Sophia on Tuesday 12th and Thursday14th August 2008. Also named in the 18 man Irish squad is former Belvedere player Danny Joyce who signed for Reading in July.

Belvedere Under14's Win Umbro Dublin Shield 

The August Bank holiday weekend was a good one for Belvedere Under 14's at the AUL Complex. Competing in the Umbro Dublin Cup Tournament in the Under 15 age group, Belvedere overcame rivals Cherry Orchard in the Shield Final on Sunday 3rd August 2008  and therefore finished 3rd overall in the Umbro Cup Tournament, with only Under 15 Premier sides St Kevins and Shels finishing above them.

DDSL Trophy Presentations 

The presentation of trophies and medals to the winners and runners-up in the DDSL 2007/08 leagues and cups was held at the Red Cow Morans Hotel on Saturday 21st June 2008. Belvedere Under 16's collected the Premier League trophy as well as Paul McGrath Cup finalists medals, while Belvedere Under 14's received medals for both runners-up in the Premier league and beaten finalist in the Thunder Cup.  Belvedere Under 15's who were unbeaten in the Premier league also received runners-up medals.

Republic of Ireland Senior Cap for Wes Hoolahan

Congratulations to former Belvedere player Wesley Hoolahan ( Blackpool ) who came off the bench late in the match to help the Republic of Ireland secure their 1 - 0 win over Columbia at Craven Cottage Stadium London on Thursday 29th May. Wes played  for Belvedere from the age of seven to eighteen and he becomes the seventh player from the club to be capped at senior international level for the Republic of Ireland

DDSL Retain the Kennedy Cup 

Congratulations to the Dublin & District Schoolboy League on winning the Kennedy Cup Tournament for the 5th successive year following their 1 - 0 win over the Kerry League in the final on Friday 13th June.  The Tournament was held at the University of Limerick from Monday 9th - Friday 13th June 2008. Four Belvedere were included in the successful DDSL Kennedy Cup squad.

Belvedere Claim DDSL Under 16 Premier League Title

There great celebrations at Navan Road on Sunday 25th May 2008 as Belvedere claimed the DDSL Under 16 Premier League title 2007/08 with a 1 - 0 win over rivals Crumlin United. Needing the three points from their last fixture of the season to secure the title, Belvedere did so in style with a great display of passing football. Garvan Broughall headed home the all important winner from a corner kick early in the second half.

Republic of Ireland International Cap Presentation

It was a great night for Belvedere players at Dublin's D4 Hotel in Ballsbridge last Thursday 22nd May 2008, as eight current players and a number of former players were presented with their Republic of Ireland International Caps for the seasons 2006/2007 and 2007/2008.

No Luck for Belvedere Under 14's in Cup Final

Belvedere Under 14's lost 2 - 0 to Crumlin United in the Thunder Cup Final at the AUL Complex on Saturday 10th May 2008. Despite having the better of the play in a scoreless first half, Belvedere conceded an own goal in the first minute of the second half. With ten minutes left to play Crumlin doubled their lead direct from a free kick.

Danny Joyce Called into Ireland Under 17 Squad

Belvedere Under 15's player Danny Joyce was called into the Republic of Ireland  Under 17 squad for the European Championships which will be held in Antalya, Turkey from May 4th to 16th. 2008.  Ireland are grouped with France, Spain and Switzerland in Group B, while the hosts Turkey, Netherlands, Scotland and Serbia compete in Group A.

Cup Final Defeat for Belvedere Under 16's 

Despite playing some of their best football so far this season and dominating the play for long periods of the match, Belvedere Under 16's conceded two goals against the run of play as they lost 2 - 1 to Crumlin United in the Paul McGrath Cup Final at Whitehall on Sunday 20th April 2008. Meanwhile, Belvedere Under 15's kept their unbeaten league record intact with a good 2 - 0 win away to Stella Maris.

Four Former Belvedere players in Ireland Under 19's

The Republic of Ireland Under 19's played France in two friendly internationals this week. In the first match in Waterford on Tuesday 25th March Ireland lost 3 - 0, while the sides drew 0 - 0 in Cork on Thursday 27th March. Former Belvedere players Gary Breen (Manchester City) and Paul Cahillane ( Celtic ) played in both matches, while Brendan Moloney (Notingham Forest) and Daniel Corcoran (Sporting Fingal) played  in the second match.

Henderson Called Into Republic Ireland Under 21 Squad

Former Belvedere player Stephen Henderson ( Bristol City ) has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for their UEFA Under 21 qualifier against Montenegro in Galway on Tuesday next 25th March 2008. His former Belvedere team mate Keith Treacy (Blackburn Rovers ) had to withdraw due to injury, but Stephen will join up with another former Belvedere player Conor Powell (Bohemians) in the Under 21 squad.

        Republic of  Ireland Under 16's Lose Out to Turkey

In their final match in the Malta International Tournament, the Republic of Ireland  Under 16's lost 3 - 0 to Turkey on Thursday 20th March 2008. Ireland won 1 - 0 over Italy  on Sunday and then defeated the hosts Malta 5 - 0 on Tuesday before losing to the tournament winners Turkey. Belvedere's Danny Joyce, Leigh Swords and Sean Skelly were part of managers Vincent Butler's 18 man squad for this friendly tournament.

The Republic of Ireland Under 15 squad returned from their trip Qatar on Friday 29th February having played 3 friendly matches against the Aspire Academy. Belvedere's Neil Byrne, John O'Sullivan and James Kavanagh were part of managers Vincent Butler's 18 man travelling squad.

Former Belvedere player Stephen Kelly ( Birmingham City ) was in action for the Republic of Ireland senior team who lost 1 - 0 to Brazil at Croke Park on Wednesday 6th February. Meanwhile, Paul Cahilane ( Celtic ) played for the Irish Under 19's who lost to the Czech Republic in two friendly internationals on Tuesday and Thursday.

John Griffith R.I.P.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of John Griffith of the FAI on Tuesday morning April 29th 2008. Over the years John had been a great friend to Belvedere Football Club in many ways. We would like to offer our deepest sympathy to Paul and the rest of the family, who also lost their mother Emer a few years ago.

Republic of  Ireland Under 16's v Israel

The Republic of Ireland Under 16's played Israel in two friendly international matches on Monday 4th and Wednesday 6th February at the Ness Ziona Stadium. The first match ended even at 1 - 1, while Ireland won the second match 1 - 0.  Manager Vincent Butler brought an 18 man squad to Israel which included Belvedere's Danny Joyce, Leigh Swords and Sean Skelly.

Three Belvedere Players in Ireland Under 15's Squad

The FAI Under 15 Midlands International Tournament involving Belgium, Latvia , Turkey and the hosts Republic of Ireland takes place this week from 12th - 15th February. Belvedere's Neil Byrne, James Kavanagh and John O'Sullivan are included in Irish manager Vincent Butler's 18 man squad for this inaugural tournament.

Roy Keane Recalls Losing to Belvedere

In a recent interview for the Daily Mirror, Sunderland manager Roy Keane recalled Rockmount losing 3 - 2 to Belvedere in the Evans Cup final as one of the defeats he will never forget. He said that mid fielder Ken Gillard, whom he was marking, scored two goals and set up the third as Belvedere came from 2 - 0 down to win the trophy.

Former Belvedere Players in Ireland Under 21 & B Teams

On Tuesday 20th November the Republic of Ireland Under 21's played Bulgaria at Athlone, while the Republic of Ireland Senior B team played Scotland in a friendly international at Airdrie. Former Belvedere players Conor Powell ( Bohemians ) and Alan Sheehan ( Leicester City ) played as the Under 21's won 1 - 0 , while Wesley Hoolahan ( Blackpool ) and Richie Byrne ( Aberdeen ) played as the B team drew 1 - 1,  Richie scoring Ireland's goal.

The Republic of Ireland Under 16's played Belgium in two friendly internationals in Liege this week. Both matches ended all even, scoreless on Tuesday 27th November, while it was 1 - 1 on Thursday. Belvedere players Leigh Sword, Danny Joyce, Craig Sexton, Matt Doherty and Sean Skelly were included in the 18 man Ireland squad.

Republic Of Ireland Under 21 Debut for Keith Treacy

Three former Belvedere players were named in the Republic of Ireland  squad for the UEFA Under 21 European Championship Group 3 qualifier  away to Montenegro on Friday 16th November 2007. Keith Treacy ( Blackburn Rovers ) made his debut, while Conor Powell ( Bohemians ) also played. Alan Sheehan ( Leicester City ) was an unused substitute.

Good Performance by Belvedere in Milk Cup Tournament

With three wins, a draw and a defeat, all against good overseas opposition, Belvedere Under 15's Manager Derek O'Brien was rightly proud of his team's performance in the Northern Ireland Milk Cup Tournament last week . They were unlucky to lose out on a semi-finals place following a 6 - 5 penalty shootout, after a nil all draw with Aspire.

Foyle Cup Win for FAI Under 16 Development Squad

The FAI Under 16 Development Squad claimed the University of Ulster Foyle Cup  with a 3 - 0  win over the South Belfast Youth League in the final on Saturday 28th July at the Brandywell Stadium . The 18 man FAI Squad included Belvedere players Neil Harney, Jason Finn, Jimmy Keohane, David Lodola and Lee Dixon.

DDSL Trophy Presentations 2006/07

The DDSL trophy presentations for 2006/07 were held at Jurys Hotel, Ballsbridge on Saturday 23rd June. The Dr. Tony O'Neill Merit Award was presented to Belvedere Secretary Philip Manly in recognition of his contribution to schoolboy football over the last 30 years. Belvedere captains were presented with 6 trophies on the day.

Kennedy Cup Tournament Win for DDSL

Congratulations to the Dublin & District Schoolboys League on winning the 2007 Kennedy Cup Tournament at the University of Limerick.. The DDSL won 2 - 0 over the Cork District Schoolboys League in the final on Friday 15th June to retain the trophy for the 4th year in a row. Well done also to Belvedere Under 13's players Neil Byrne, John Todd, Dean Smith and James Kavanagh who all played their part in a successful week for the DDSL representative side.

Garvan Named Belvedere Under 15 Player of the Year

The SFAI Under 15 Evans Cup winners rounded off their season at Jurys Croke Park Hotel on Friday 1st June 2007. As well as the Under 15 players and coaches, a number of parents and friends also attended the function. Belvedere F.C. Chairman Fergus McCabe addressed the gathering , before presenting the Under 15's Player of the Year Award to Garvan Broughall.

DDSL Under 14 Premier League Champions Belvedere

With the DDSL Under 14 Premier League title safely secured on Wednesday last, Belvedere lost 2 - 0 to Saint Kevin's Boys in their final match of the season at Shanowen Road on Monday 4th June. Although this was Belvedere's  first defeat of the season, it didn't spoil the celebrations for the 2006/07 League Champions.

Belvedere Win FAI Under 17 Challenge Cup 

Belvedere Under 17's claimed their second trophy in a week, with a 2 - 0 win over Drogheda United in the FAI Under 17 Challenge Cup Final, at Frank Cooke Park on Sunday 27th May. In an exciting match, Belvedere led 1-0 at the break thanks to David Kelly's goal, before Daniel Corcoran doubled the advantage in the second half.

Leinster Youth Cup Final Win For Belvedere Under 17's 

Belvedere Under 17's won the Leinster Youth Cup with a great 3 - 0 win over Crumlin United at Haddon Park Killester on Sunday 20th May. Leading one nil at the half time break, man of the match Emeka Onwubiko scored a goal in each half, while Daniel Corcoran also rounded off a fine personal performance with a well taken goal.

Belvedere Win SFAI Under 15 Evans Cup Final

At Whitehall on Thursday 17th May Belvedere won the SFAI Under 15 Evans Cup Final with a dramatic 3 - 2 win over Crumlin United. Belvedere twice came from behind to equalise with goals from David Lodola and Jimmy Keohane before David O'Connor scored the all important winner in extra time.

Ireland Under 18's Win Lisbon Tournament

Well done to the Republic of Ireland Under 18's on winning the four - nations invitational tournament in Lisbon on Sunday 4th February 2007. Belvedere's Daniel Corcoran and former players Brendan Maloney (Notts Forest), Paul Cahillane (Glasgow Celtic) and Karl Byrne (Plymouth Argyle) played in all three matches as Ireland won 3 - 1 over Georgia on Thursday, drew 2 - 2 with Belguim the next day before defeating Portugal 1 - 0 on Sunday in the deciding match to claim the trophy.

Cillian Sheridan Signs Three Year Contract for Celtic

Dreams do come true! That was evident last Sunday for former Belvedere front man Cillian Sheridan who came on as a second half substitute for Glasgow Celtic in the Scottish Cup quarter final game against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.  If that's not enough, today Tuesday 27 February 2007 he signed a new three year contract with "The Bhoys". Pamela Manly R.I.P.

 Double Win for Holland over Ireland Under 15's

The Republic of Ireland Under 15's played Holland in two international friendly matches this week in Dublin . Ireland manager Vincent Butler picked separate squads for the two matches, which the Dutch won 5 - 3 on Tuesday 30th November and 1 - 0 on Thursday 2nd December 2004. Well done to Belvedere's Daniel Langan who played in the second game, coming on a substitute after 60 minutes.

Shelbourne are Eircom National League Champions 2004

Congratulations to manager Pat Fenlon, the players and officials of Shelbourne Football Club on winning the Eircom National League title for the second year in a row. The successful Shelbourne squad includes three former Belvedere players: Wesley Hoolahan, Thomas Morgan and Gerard Rowe. Well done to all.

Republic of Ireland Under 17's Qualify

The Republic of Ireland Under 17's won 5 - 0 against Lithuania on Monday to qualify for the next group stage of the UEFA competition along with the hosts Germany. Ireland had already drawn 1 - 1 with both Iceland and Germany earlier in the week. Belvedere's Alan Power and James O'Sullivan both played against Lithuania as did their former team mates Stephen Henderson ( Aston Villa ) and Keith Treacy ( Blackburn Rovers ) who both joined English Premier Clubs in the Summer. Well done to Manager Sean McCaffery and the squad in qualifying.

Belvo's Connolly Scores as Ireland Draw with Wales

The Republic of Ireland Under 16's drew 2 - 2 with Wales at Whitehall on Wednesday 15th September. Belvedere's Gary Breen and David Connolly both played, with the latter scoring the opening goal for Ireland after 6 minutes. Wales equalised on 30 minutes and then went 2 - 1 ahead, 8 minutes into the second half. Ireland never stopped trying however, and they scored again in the 75th minute to level the match.

DDSL Trophy Presentations

Jurys Hotel in Ballsbridge was the venue on Saturday 3rd July for the DDSL annual presentation of trophies. Belvedere F.C. collected the Under 10A League title, Under 11 Premier League runners-up, Under 12 Tony Ryan Cup winners, Under 14 SFAI Goodson Cup winners, finalists in the Under 14 Thunder Cup ( not yet played ), Under 16 SFAI Barry Cup winners, runners-up in the Under 16 Paul McGrath Cup.

Republic of Ireland Under 17's Japanese Tour

The Republic of Ireland Under 17's finished off their Japanese tour with a 7 - 0 win over Gifu High School selection in a friendly match on Tuesday. In the Toyota International Youth Championship Tournament, Ireland beat Nagoya Grampus Eight in their opening match before losing 1-0 to Korea and losing 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Japan.

Belvedere's Timmy Purcell played, as did his two former team mates Stephen Henderson (Aston Villa) and Keith Treacy (Blackburn Rovers), both of whom moved to English Premiership clubs in July.

Belvedere Player of the Year Award 2002/03

"Better late than never" was how Belvedere F.C. Chairman John Moore put it, as he finally presented Stuart Hyland with last season's Player of the Year Award, at the Belvedere "end of season night" recently. Capped at various underage levels for the Republic of Ireland, Stuart signed for Eircom National League Premier Division club, Bohemians F.C. earlier this year. A member of the Bohemians first team squad, Stuart has been making great progress this season.

 DDSL Win Kennedy Cup Final 2004

Congratulations to the Dublin District Schoolboys League Under 13 representative side, who won the Kennedy Cup Final, when they defeated the Cork Schoolboys League 5 - 4 on penalties at the University of Limerick campus on Friday. The match had ended in a scoreless draw, after extra time, before the penalty shoot. Well done to Belvedere's Robert Doran and Bernard Ogene who were members of the successful DDSL squad.

 Former Belvedere Players Star for Millwall

Millwall got off to a 2-1 win on Sunday against Vancouver Metro All Stars in their tour of Canada. Former Belvedere players Barry Cogan and Terry Masterson played, with Barry scoring the winning goal. Terry was a late addition to the squad and he came on in the second half to replace Graham Stack in goal.

O'Sullivan Wins First Cap For Ireland v Holland

Congratulations to Belvedere's James O'Sullivan who won his first cap for the Republic of Ireland Under 16's on Thursday last in the 1 - 1 draw with Holland. This was the second of two friendly international matches against Holland last week, at Whitehall. Ireland won the first match 2 - 1 on Tuesday. Belvedere's Stephen Henderson, Timmy Purcell and Keith Tracey played in both matches, with Keith scoring all three goals for Ireland.

No luck for the Republic of Ireland Under 16's as they lost 2 - 0 to Russia in their final game of the Castelo Branco Tournament in Portugal.

Belvedere's Timmy Purcell and Keith Tracey both played in the game.

Republic of Ireland Under 19's Defeat Norway

In their third and final match of the Porto Tournament in Portugal, the Republic of Ireland Under 19's defeated Norway 1 - 0. Having lost to both Ukraine and Portugal in their first two matches, despite playing well, Ireland bounced back with a well deserved win with a goal from Patrick Clegg ( Arsenal ) in the 30th minute.

Former Belvedere players Andrew Cousins and Derek Tyrell ( both Leeds United ) played in the three matches.

Norway, along with Belgium and Serbia & Montenegro will be Ireland's opponents in the UEFA Championship Group Qualifiers in May.

Republic of Ireland Under 17's

The Republic of Ireland Under 17's lost 1 - 0 to the hosts Canary Islands on Friday in their final game of the Copa del Atlantico in Gran Canaria. The Irish had already drawn 1 - 1 with both Italy and Spain in the tournament.

Manager Sean McCaffrey, although disappointed with the result of the final game , was happy with the overall performance of the Irish, having used all of the 20 man squad over the three games.

Belvedere's Scott Weir made his Republic of Ireland Under 17 International debut against Canary Islands on Friday, while his former Belvedere team mate, Ross Gaynor, who joined Millwall in July, played in all three games.

Republic of Ireland Under 15's Draw

Republic of Ireland Under 15's and Welsh Schools FA drew 0 - 0 in their second fixture on Wednesday at the AUL Complex. The Welsh were looking to avenge their 2 - 0 defeat by the Irish on Monday at Whitehall. Manager Vincent Butler had selected separate squads for the two games. Belvedere's Paul Cahillane played in Wednesday's match and turned in a good performance, as did his club team mates Gary Breen and David Connolly who both played on Monday. Congratulations to all three Belvedere players on gaining their first Ireland representative honours.

 Premiership Debut for Stephen Kelly

Congratulations to former Belvedere player Stephen Kelly who made his Premiership debut for Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday against Charlton Athletic.

Republic of Ireland Under 20 International Stephen was on loan to Watford for most of the season and was only recently recalled to the Spurs first team squad.

Surgery for Sunderland's Richie Ryan

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to former Belvedere player Richie Ryan who underwent surgery last weekend to remove a floating bone in his hip. This is the second such operation for the eighteen year old who has been unlucky with injuries this season. Richie made his Premiership debut for Sunderland at the end of last season and was making great progress, but this season injury has so far prevented him from making any first team appearances in the Nationwide League. ... Belvedere Honours Philip Manly

A large gathering of past Belvedere players, managers and friends turned up at Smyths of Fairview on Saint Stephen's Day after the managers' match. They were there to show their appreciation for Chief Executive and Club Secretary Philip Manly to whom a surprise presentation was made, to mark his contribution as a coach / manager and an officer of Belvedere Football Club for more than 25 years.

Stephen Elliott Named on FIFA List

Congratulations to former Belvedere player Stephen Elliott who was named by FIFA among their stars of the recent World Youth Championships held in the United Arab Emirates.

Stephen was one of only three European players included in a list of 12 players by FIFA which they expect to go on to greater things with senior teams over the coming years.

Stephen was one of the Irish stars of the tournament as he scored three goals as Republic of Ireland topped Group E with victories over Saudi Arabia and Mexico as well as a draw with the Ivory Coast before loosing out 3-2 to eventual bronze medallists Columbia after a golden goal in extra time.

The Republic of Ireland Under 20's goal scoring sensation Stephen, becomes the first Irish player to have scored three goals at one World Youth Championships, scoring both goals against Saudi Arabia and the equaliser against the Ivory Coast.

Republic of Ireland Under 20's Defeated in Quarter Finals

Hard luck on the Republic of Ireland Under 20's who lost 3 - 2 in extra time to Columbia in the Quarter Finals of the World Youth Championships in the United Arab Emirates. Ireland having gone two nil behind staged a dramatic two goal come back in the last five minutes of normal time to send the game into extra time. Unfortunately for Ireland, the Columbians scored a third "golden goal" which sent them into the semi finals and ended up bronze medallists.

Ireland had topped Group E unbeaten with a 2 - 1 win over Saudi Arabia, a 2 - 2 draw with Ivory Coast and a 2 - 0 win against Mexico. ................... Reports on the four games are available on the FAI website ( www.fai.ie ).

Gerard Nash Makes First Team Debut for Ipswich Town

Congratulations to former Belvedere player Gerard Nash who came off the bench to play his part in Ipswich Town's 6 - 1 defeat over Burnley on Tuesday. 17 year old Gerard signed for Ipswich Town in July 2002 and he has made rapid progress in his short time with the "Tractor Boys".

Republic of Ireland Under 19 Team Win

The Republic of Ireland Under 19's defeated Lithuania on Monday 2 - 1 to win the group and go forward to the second group qualifiers. They drew with 1 - 1 with Bulgaria in their first match and defeated San Marino 10 -1 in the second game of their UEFA qualifying group in San Marino on Saturday.

Republic of Ireland Under 16 Team Win at Whitehall

The Under 16 Republic of Ireland Team played Austria in a friendly international at Home Farm's ground on Wednesday and won 1 - 0. Ireland played the better football, creating a number of goal scoring chances and were well worth their win.

Congratulations to Belvedere's Stephen Henderson, Keith Tracey and Tim Purcell who all played in the match. The team was managed by former Belvedere coach Vincent Butler.

Ireland Under 17's Win Hungarian International Tournament

The Republic of Ireland Under 17's defeated the Czech Republic 2 - 0 in the final of the Hungarian International Tournament on Sunday 17th August. They qualified for the final after topping their group with victories over Hungary (4 - 0), Israel (4 - 2) and a draw with Slovakia (2 - 2). Belvedere's Mark Keane played in all four games as did his former team mate Ross Gaynor. Ross who joined Millwall from Belvedere this Summer, gained his first ever international cap and scored two goals against Hungary. The team was managed by former Belvedere coach Noel O'Reilly.
