Four Former Belvedere players in Ireland Under 19's

The Republic of Ireland Under 19's played France in two friendly internationals this week. In the first match in Waterford on Tuesday 25th March Ireland lost 3 - 0, while the sides drew 0 - 0 in Cork on Thursday 27th March. Former Belvedere players Gary Breen (Manchester City) and Paul Cahillane ( Celtic ) played in both matches, while Brendan Moloney (Notingham Forest) and Daniel Corcoran (Sporting Fingal) played  in the second match.

Former Belvedere players in Action for Ireland

Former Belvedere player Stephen Kelly ( Birmingham City ) was in action for the Republic of Ireland senior team who lost 1 - 0 to Brazil at Croke Park on Wednesday 6th February. Meanwhile, Paul Cahilane ( Celtic) played for the Irish Under 19's who lost to the Czech Republic in two friendly internationals on Tuesday and Thursday.  The Republic of Ireland Under-19 side were narrowly beaten 1-0 by the Czech Republic on Tuesday 5th February in Drogheda, while a perfectly placed free-kick goal by Czech Republic captain Petr Wojnar gave the visitors the lead at half-time and Tomas Faban added a second with two minutes remaining at Home Farm FC in Whitehall, Dublin on Thursday 7th  February to wrap up back to back victories for the visitors.

As part of the Republic of Ireland Under 19's preparations for the UEFA elite qualifying phase in May, they travel to play two friendly international matches with the Czech Republic next week. Manager Sean McCafrey has named a 20 man squad including former Belvedere players Stephen Henderson (Aston Villa) , Brendan Moloney  (Nottingham Forest) , Cillian Sheridan (Celtic) and Paul Cahillane (Celtic).

Ireland Under 19's Reach UEFA Elite Qualifying Phase

The Republic of Ireland Under 19's reached the UEFA elite qualifying phase in 2007 following wins over hosts Macedonia, Belarus and Netherlands to top their group.  

Ireland defeated the hosts, Macedonia 2-0 in their first match on Thursday 5th October 2006. Next they won 2 - 1 over Belarus on Saturday 7th October before topping their group with a 2 - 0 win over Netherlands on Monday 9th October to advance to the elite qualifying phase which will be held in 2007.

Congratulations to former Belvedere players Stephen Henderson ( Aston Villa ) and  Keith Treacy ( Blackburn Rovers ) who played in all three matches.
