Belvedere Goalkeeper Continues on Family Tradition

Belvedere F.C.'s Under 14 Premier Team Goalkeeper, Stephen Henderson, continued a great family goalkeeping tradition when he lined out for the Republic of Ireland Under 15 Team against Finland at Whitehall last Thursday April 10th 2003.

Stephen's father is Stephen Henderson who played in goal for many years in both the League of Ireland and in the Irish League. Stephen senior's brother is Dave Henderson who starred between the posts for Bohemians and St Patricks Athletic, while younger brother Wayne, who plays with Aston Villa, has been capped for Ireland at all levels, from Under 14 to Under 20, and was one of the goalkeepers named in the Irish Squad for the postponed Under 20 FIFA World Cup Finals 2003 in the United Arab Emirates.

Paddy Henderson, father of Stephen, Dave and Wayne and young Stephen's grandfather, was a goalkeeper with Shamrock Rovers in the 1960's and is an FAI Cup medal winner.

Stephen was rewarded with his international debut on Thursday following some fine performances in the trials as well for Belvedere F.C.'s Under 14 Premier Team this season.

The Henderson Clan can be rightly proud of Stephen for keeping on the family goalkeeping tradition.
