DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Belvedere F.C.  2 - 1  Shelbourne F.C.

Our first game at Home, on one of the  "Hottest Days" of the Summer and the pitch was in great condition, mainly due to the hard work of Philip Manly and Peadar Behan in marking the pitch....well done lads.

Belvoe won the toss and Darragh Lenihan tipped off to Dermot Loath who then passed to Sean Corbally who hit a long ball to center forward Kealon Dillon. Kealon then played a nice one two with his fellow centre forward Adam Evens who hit a really good shot, and only a good save from the Shels' 'keeper we would of being one up straight away.

The first half was played at a fast pace. Our first goal came from some good football, our 'keeper Lee Brandon rolled the ball to our center half Pierse Sweeney who beat the on coming center forward and rolled the ball to skipper Darragh Lenihan.

Darragh then passed the ball to David Crosby the left full, who passed it down the line to outside left Sean Kavanagh. Sean skipped by a tackle, before whipping a great cross into the box for Adam Evens to head home to the back of the net.

Shels played some good football, and they had us on the back foot for a while. However, it was Belvo who scored again following some constant pressure. Right full Eoin Hyland got down the wing to the end line, put in a cross which Kealon Dillon got on to, he laid off to Adam Evens who then went in with a one on one with the 'keeper before firing home.

The second half was played at a slower pace, as the hot weather was taking its toll. From the tip off Shels showed that they were determined to get something from the game. In the last quarter of the game Shels put us under pressure and it paid off when they were awarded a penalty with five minutes to go.

A harsh decision, as I thought the two players were pulling out of each other, but the referee Gerry McClinton, who had a good game, was right beside it.

At the final whistle it remained 2 - 1 to Belvo to make it six points from the first two matches

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Saint Kevin's Boys 0 - 2 Belvedere F.C.

First game of the season for Belvedere after four false starts. Saint Kevins won the toss and choose to play with a slight breeze. They started off at a fast pace, but we matched them just as good. The first ten minutes was cat and mouse stuff then we started to dominate the play.

It paid off, a ball rolled out from keeper Lee Brandon  to right full Eoin Hyland who played a lovely weighted ball in behind the full back, for Kealon Dillon to get  on to, a lovely first touch to play it straight across to Adam Evens who slotted it past the advancing goalkeeper to make it one nil.

We kept the pressure on and five minutes later we forced a corner, Sean Kavanagh sent in a lovely ball right on to the head of Dermot Loath who headed it down for Kealon Dillon to blast it into the back of the net. Half time  two nil up.

The second half we knew St. Kevins would come at us hard and fast especially when you are playing against five ex-Belvo players, and sure enough they did. They got in behind our defence three times and got two corners which we dealt with.

The second half was very even, we both had chances, But we did what we came for, we got the three points.

Belvedere U14's win Umbro Dublin U15 Shield

The August bank holiday weekend was a good one for Belvedere Under 14's. Competing in the Umbro Dublin Cup Tournament in the Under 15 age group, Belvedere overcame rivals Cherry Orchard in the Shield Final on Sunday 3rd August 2008 and therefore finished 3rd overall, with only Under 15 Premier sides St Kevins and Shels finishing above them.

On Friday the lads played 2 matches against tough Under15 opposition. The 1st ended 4-1 with goals from Kealon Dillon (2), Chris Lyons and Sean Corbally. Kealon joined the squad this season having impressed in the Kennedy Cup during the summer. A native of Athboy, Kealon has shown huge promise in pre-season and he also proves that Belvo is in your blood as Kealon's dad played for the club many years ago.

With only a 30 minute break the lads then headed into the 2nd match of the day against a physically strong side. Playing some excellent football the lads recorded a 2-1 victory. Leading 2-0 with goals from Chris Lyons and Robbie Doyle the lads conceded a late goal to take some of the shine of the performance. Robbie is another new addition to the squad. Hailing from Malahide he has impressed in matches between Belvo and Malahide in the past and has shown he can score goals so we look forward to seeing him rattling in a few us.

Day 2 saw the lads play leading U15 side Shelbourne FC. Played in excellent sunshine and in front of a large crowd the lads took the game to Shels in great style. The match finished 0-0 but could easily have gone our way had Kealon's shot off the post bounced more favorably. The football played by the lads was excellent at times and we more than matched the physical aspect of the match. Pierce Sweeney was a rock at the heart of an excellent Belvo defence. Aided by excellent performances from Lee Brandon in nets and Eoin Hyland beside him. Adam Evans and Dara Lenihan also went close from distance. All 15 players involved in this match were outstanding.

Day 3 saw us in with a shout of winning the group but we needed lots of luck and a 9-0 win against Malahide U15's! Again another very physical side tried to use this to their advantage but it fell on deaf ears as out lads set about keeping possession and moving the ball across the park. Although it quickly became obvious that a 9-0 win was out of the question we still believed we could secure 2nd in this tough group as did Malahide. The better chances of the match fell our way with Robbie Doyle, Adam Evans, Graham Burke and Sean Corbally all going to close to giving us the lead. John McKeown on the left proving to be our main source of chances, sending in cross after cross from his side. John joins us this season from Drogheda where again he impressed in the recent Kennedy Cup tournament. Blessed with pace, skill and an excellent left foot we expect the big Louth man to be a major player for us this season. The matched finished 0-0 and a draw was enough to see us finish 2nd in the group and into the Shield final later that day.

The Shield final saw us pitched against last season's double winning Cherry Orchard. Fatigue and injuries affected our team selection here with some of the lads been asked to play through injury. Key to this match was keeping the ball, especially having played 4 matches already that weekend. The lads had saved their best 'till last though and we were again outstanding in this match. Every man playing his part in a 1-0 win. The winning goal coming from Graham Burke after 10 minutes of the 1st half.

Our thanks to Belvedere Under15's players Graham Burke, Glen O' Brien and Chris Lyons who all helped us at some stage over the weekend.

Belvedere's Player of the Tournament: Pierce Sweeney. 10 out of 10 in every match.
