Republic Ireland Under 16's Lose out to Northern Ireland
The Republic of Ireland Under 16's played Northern Ireland in two annual friendly internationals on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st October at Whitehall Dublin. The first match ended even at 3 - 3, while the visitors won the second 3 - 1 to claim the Wilkinson Sword trophy
Belvedere's Neil Byrne, Daniel McMahon, John O'Sullivan and Chris Lyons all played in the first match on Monday, while their club team mates Michael Barker, James Kavanagh and Dean Smith played in the second match on Tuesday.
These two games against Northern Ireland offered manager Vincent
Butler an opportunity to try out 17 new players as they look to finish out the
calendar year in positive fashion.
Butler said: “We will have played five games this season by the end of these
matches against Northern Ireland and we should be a lot clearer on the quality
of players available to us by then.
“We have matches later in the season against France and two tournaments to
look forward to, so this was a good opportunity for new lads to impress and
stake their claim for being included in those squads.”
