Annual Challenge Match Gerry Donnelly Cup
|
Belfast Schools 0 - 1 DDSL
The annual Youths Challenge Match between Belfast & District Secondary Schools Football Assocation and the Dublin & District Schoolboys League was played at Ashfield Boys High School Belfast on Wednesday 14th January 2009 for the Gerry Donnelly Cup. The cup is named in honour of the recently retired DDSL Treasurer Gerry Donnelly. Despite the terrible weather conditions on the day, the match produced some great football from both teams. There were many scoring chances created by both sides but, the only goal of the game was scored by Shane Howard midway through the second half as the DDSL retained the cup for the second successive year. Man of the match was the DDSL's goalkeeper David Quirke who produced a number of excellent saves to deny the hosts.
Belvedere Under 17's were selected to represent the DDSL in the match.
