March Public Meeting

(Skerries Historical Society's Presentation - 14th. March 2006)

On Tuesday 14th. March Petra Skyvova presented a paper entitled "The Holy Wells of Fingal". She explained that there are over 60 wells in Fingal.

Among the many Holy Wells, which she described and showed on slides was St. Movee's in the townland of Grange, which is still a well preserved structure. It may have been neolithic in origin, its construction similar to the burial chambers at Newgrange.

Petra has done alot of research on her subject and has published a book Fingallian Holy Wells, which is most interesting and beautifully published in association with Fingal Co. Libraries. It's available at Skerries Mills and all good bookshops.

Brian O'Byrne thanked Petra on behalf of Skerries Historical Society.
