Part 1: Dublin lockout and the farm labourer's dispute of 1913

(Skerries Historical Society's January 2004 Lecture)

Eugene Coyle delivered this lecture to Skerries Historical Society monthly meeting on January 13th. Eugene dealt with social conditions in Dublin City and County which led to the strike and general lockout which brought chaos and anarchy to the city and county in August 1913. This was the confrontation of the poorly paid workers - led bt James Larkin - with the wealthy employers under the leadership of William Martin Murphy.

This paper is Part 1 of a study of this period 1913 - 1923 and we look forward to the second part of the study.
A vote of thanks was proposed on behalf of the Society by Stephanie Bourke.
