Our monthly meeting was held on Tuesday February 8th. The scheduled talk was postponed as unfortunately the speaker was indisposed. However two papers on a similar topic, the history of railways in North County Dublin, were chosen from the archive.
Marie Baker read a paper originally given by the late Bob Browne in 1981. It was called The Great Northern Railway and outlines the setting up of a company around 1835 for the construction of a railway line between Dublin and Drogheda and its completion in 1844. It then gives a general study of the history of the railway line between Dublin and Belfast.

Rosalie Pickering read the late Paddy Halpin's paper of 1984, Memories of the Old G.N.R. This features personal memories of travel as a commuter on the GNR (later CIE), from the 20s to the 80s. There were many humourous anecdotes of daily travel and travellers on the Skerries- Dublin part of the journey and insightful comments on life and mores of the time.
The audience thoroughly enjoyed the evening and Brian O'Byrne, Chairperson, thanked Maree Baker and Rosalie Pickering for their presentations.
