The interiors of this Georgian house have a well-travelled and individual feel and have been decorated with some surprising touches. Instead of an abundance of chintz and swag curtains you will find an eclectic and chic marriage of Georgian country house and oriental style in the pastoral surroundings of County Carlow. The house feels more like a home, which is, essentially, what it is but with some of the comforts and facilities you expect from a small intimate hotel.

Five acres of velvety green gardens embrace this country house on the eastern slopes of the Barrow valley. The double pediment façade, with cut granite detailing and mellow lime rendering, stands proudly on crisp gravel driveway.

From the moment you walk through the weathered oak front door the womb-like hall, with honeyed woods, deep reds and ochre yellows, seems to radiate welcoming and familiar tones.

The drawing room is bright and spacious, a confident combination of cherry red, moss green, mauve and yellow. Traditional Irish furniture pieces sit next to accent pieces gathered during extensive travels. An antique tribal table takes centre stage in front of the large open fireplace and is surrounded by comfortable sofas and chased stainless steel tables, large stainless steel framed mirrors, contemporary art and wood block prints, zebra amphorae and serpentine stone sculptures compete the setting.

There are outdoor seating areas adjacent to the drawing room for catching the warm rays in summer months. There is a cosy nook in the hallway, with a wood-burning stove, for those crisp autumnal evenings.

There are two dining rooms at Kilgraney – the cherub-adorned, mulberry dining room for a more intimate experience and the tribal art dining room where communal dining is offered, for up to twelve guests, around a locally made limestone table replete with cutlery, crockery and glassware sourced as far away as Thailand and as close as Kilkenny.

Guest accommodation comprises of six comfortable and exquisitely idiosyncratic bedrooms and two contemporary and stylist courtyard suites. All guest bedrooms are furnished and decorated in their own unique style and all have en-suite bathroom facilities. All bedrooms are non-smoking rooms.
