MUSIC

Aravon has a strong musical tradition and a wide range of instruments is available to study as optional extras: Concert Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Saxophone, Violin, Viola, Cello, Piano, Treble/Descant/Tenor Recorder, Guitar (Classical and Folk).

Aravon is one of the few junior schools in Ireland that has its own orchestra. Musicians are also encouraged to form chamber groups. Each year the school holds a Music Festival during the Summer term with many different categories of entry. Emphasis is placed on thorough preparation, participation and enjoyment.

Class Recorder is taught from Form 1 to 3. Older pupils tend to seek individual rather than group tuition. Singing is also taught at Aravon, and the school has a Chamber Choir. Both the Orchestra and Chamber Choir have won many prestigious awards. As a venue for orchestral and chamber music courses run by the Dublin Youth Orchestra, Aravon regularly plays host to young musicians from all over Ireland and abroad.
