PREPARATORY

The Preparatory school consists of six classes in which the children further consolidate the basics they have learned in Pre-Preparatory. Pupils may attend on a Day, Boarder or Weekly Boarder basis. Physical education and games are an integral part of school life. Pupils may avail of activities such as cookery or extra Art and Craft, Horseriding, Woodturning, Tennis and Golf.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday are major games days. Competitive matches are arranged with other schools throughout the school year for both boys and girls. Swimming instruction is also provided every week for all pupils. Homework is completed in the late afternoon, after games in a fully supervised environment. Hot lunch is provided every day.

School Hours:
Form 1 (6 year old):
8.30 a.m. - 3.30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday
8.30 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. Wednesday

Form 2 (7 year old):
8.30 a.m. - 3.30 p.m. Monday to Friday

Forms 3 to 6:
8.30 a.m. –5.30 p.m. Monday to Friday

An Extended Day facility is available to 5.30 p.m. Optional Saturday morning activities include music, art and sports.

CURRICULUM

The range of core subjects taught is extended to encompass additional French and Irish: Junior Science, Mathematics, English, History, Geography, Religious Education, and Recorder for Forms 1 to 3; Science, (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) Forms 4 to 6.

Each form averages two periods of Art per week. Outings to theatres and concerts are considered an integral part of the English and Music curricula, developing an early appreciation of literature and the arts.

Further outings are organised throughout the academic year by the Geography, History and Science Departments, and the French Department arranges a 6th Form exchange programme with a school in France.
