The Vortex is now officialy open. It is advertised as a gay Lesiure Club and boasts Dublins most professional sauna.. They offer a discount for under 25's with Id. The club is on Strand street, just off Capel Street and runs several theme nights. I still dont know what a gay "Leisure Club" actually is.. so if anyone finds out send all info to the usual address.

 Bingo becomes mainstream

It had to happen sooner or later, Sunday Bingo in the George has been getting more and more popular. Yesterdays Irish Independent ran an article on it in their Tuesday suppliment "CityLife", with a half page of text and two photo's of Shirley Temple Bar.

The reporter seemed suitably impressed with the now cult Sunday afternoon game with quotes such as "Clearly this is an event which has built up a strong regular following, of no one particular age or gender." The paper also reports on the Geogres rule on footwear, "The relaxed door policy in The George has one unquestionable ruling about a certain type of casual footwear that shall never cross its threshold: trainers. So now you have been warned." You still might be able to pick up copies of the article from your local newsagent.. and don't forget bingo every Sunday in the George from 6:30.

Review of Dublins newest Night-Club

Dublins newest night club "paradise" opened to mixed reviews at the weekend. Paradise actually an old club, reopened in new premises "The Tivoli", managed to pull a fairly large crowd, which was surprising. The venue is very big and has two bars on both sides of the very big dance floor.. probably the biggest dance floor in any Dublin Gay Club.

It played a wide mix of music, the only bad music coming from the live act "Hazel Dean", who was famous too long ago and very few of the audience had even heard of her before. The club was £8.00 in on the opening night but promises cheaper admission for future dates. In all the only fault with the club is that it's very big, probably too big to fill to capacity, which could create problems in the future, as no-one likes a half full club, so strong acts will be needed to pull the crowd.

Dublins Oldest sauna, "The Gym" on Dame Lane will close on September 13th. It opened back in 1980 by Cyril O'Brien, who also bought "The George". Customers of the gym are being refered to "The Boilerhouse" which is also in the Cyril O'Brien group. Paradise to re-open in new location
Paradise nightclub is to reopen in the Tivoli Theatre, near Christchurch, this is due to problems with previous venue "the furnace". It is now being sponsored by "Absolut" vodka. The opening night is on September 19th and Hazell Dean will be providing the entertainment. (lets hope the music is better than it was in the furnace). Also "the Dame Edna Experience" is to return to Wonderbar, definitly worth checking out. (see www.wonderbar.net for more info)
Halloween Rivalry
This halloween looks like it's going to be a huge event, with two clubs already announcing their Halloween plans. "Wonderbar" is to have a Fancy Dress Ball on Sat 31st of October and the "Outhouse" are having their "Queer Halloween Ball" on the same night. No doubt the George will be having a similar night, which offers plenty of choice for all.... (if not too much choice)
