It's hard to believe it - but the Kingdom County Fair is being run for the 52nd time this year! This year again it is being staged in the grounds of the Ballybeggan Park Racecourse so there is plenty of room for everything.

As well as the major events (show-jumping and cattle shows), there are also plenty of events to catch the attention of the urban dweller: such as displays, arts and crafts, dog show, cookery competitions and lots more. Mary Barry, who is the Secretary of the Kingdom County Fair, said that a huge amount of work is involved in staging the event every year and this year is no exception. The event draws huge crowds from not only County Kerry but from all over Ireland.

The Kerry Macra na Feirme Efficiency Competition always proves to be a great crowd-puller during the Fair every year. The idea is for all of the Macra clubs in Kerry to get together for a fun day out in a spirit of competition in such fields as cookery, crafts, sports and so on.

An Enterprise and Craft Show is a new addition to the Fair this year. This has been facilitated by contacts with the County Enterprise Board, LEADER Companies and the Local Development Agencies. Fifty small businesses, supported by these agencies, will participate in the small business section of the Show. This presents the aspiring entrepeneur with the opportunity to meet other people who have recently started their own businesses. The Fair also allows the businesses participating to exhibit their products and assists in networking with other small businesses. A whole range of enterprises ranging from hat manufacture to timber decking will be on display.
