Cultural Exchange Concert
The senior orchestras of the Kerry School of Music and their French counterpart performed two concerts in Kerry last week - the first in Killarney on Thursday and then in Tralee on Friday.
The Tralee concert was held at 8pm in St. John's Church of Ireland, Ashe Street and it featured the orchestra from the Conservatoire de Musique et de Dance from Marly. This concert formed part of what is intended to be a series of annual exchange visits between the Kerry School of Music and music students from a number of other countries.
The French performers, who remained in Kerry until Sunday 30th April, will play host to students from the Kerry School of Music for five days during July. Mr. Aidan O'Carroll, Artistic Director of the Kerry School, thanked all those present on Friday night and complimented the excellent performances of all the visitors (both dancers and musicians). He was confident that this initiative could be successfully repeated in the future. 'We are delighted to play host to the students from Marly' he said, 'and I see this cultural exchange as the beginning of some wonderful opportunities for our students to experience the music and culture of other countries'.
