Bulgaria

Project: Assisting the Bulgarian Government in the development of a Public Administration Reform Policy.

The objective was to identify specific priority areas suitable for PHARE support. Under this 3 million ECU project, advice was given on options for the scope of public administration reform suitable for multilateral and bilateral support.

Project: Developing a business plan to support the establishment of a Business Innovation Centre in Plovdiv

Together with the EBN, developed a comprehensive plan for the setting up of a Business Support Centre in Plovdiv, 100 miles from Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.

Poland

Project: Supporting the establishment of a Business Support Agency in Kielce.

The programme’s task was to build a support network for SMEs in the town of Kielce by providing consultancy and on-the-job training for staff. This concentrated on training programmes dealing with business planning, finance, marketing, and the provision of a range of consultancy skills to enable the Support Centre to provide value added services.

Project: The design and presentation of a business training module for several BICs in Poland.

This joint project with the European Business Network was part of a programme designed to help train support staffs in a number of newly established Polish Innovation Centres.

Project: Development of a business incubator model

This assignment involved the development of a strategic economic development plan for a small city in Poland. The client, a large international company, had substantially invested in a factory in the town, and as part of good corporate citizenship, had commissioned a feasibility study for the town to enable them to set up a business incubation centre.

Wales

Project: Assisting the establishment of a Science Park at Caernarfon

Under the EU SPRINT Programme, was part of an EU team developing a feasibility study for the establishment of the Snowdonia Science Park. This led to a number of sub-projects, including the setting up of a Business Innovation Centre, which later spearheaded the Science Park concept. This project commenced as a local initiative in terms of the development of a 400-acre slate quarry and subsequently broadened its focus into the development of a regional Snowdonia Technopole.

United Kingdom

Project: Development of Science Park in Northumberland on behalf of TEC, the Training and Enterprise Council

Together with partners Ernst & Young and other EU consultants, assisted the TEC in Northumberland in developing the feasibility of the Science Park concept to a region that had particular rural characteristics.

Belgium

Project: The development of manuals of best practice for the EBN.

EBN contracted the development of eight manuals of best practice for use by personnel engaged in the running of BICs. DBIC were part of a team, which provided technical inputs and wrote the business planning manual.

Hungary

Project: Trade Development and Investment Promotion Programme

The task involved assisting the Programme Management Unit establish an EC-funded Trade Development and Investment Promotion Programme. This involved trade development, investment promotion and institutional development, focused on the stimulation of SMEs. This led to the design and establishment of a new autonomous agency for trade development and investment promotion.

Greece

Project: Supporting the establishment of a Technology Park in Larissa, Greece.

This was an EU SPRINT programme designed to help set up a technology park. Partners included the University of Athens and the University of Newcastle. The project led to the design and implementation of a strategic plan for the development of a technology park in the region.

Germany

Project: Support the establishment of a Science Park in Frankfurt (Oder)

Together with Expert Consult in Germany, DBIC provided input for the setting up of a Science Park in Frankfurt (Oder). A detailed strategic plan led to the successful establishment of the Science Park, which attracted significant inward investment to the region.

Kazakhstan

Project: Support for sectoral development of SMEs and the streamlining and enhancement of core SME development facilities.

Together with SAC International provided inputs for the provision of technical services to enhance the capabilities of the business support unit in Amalty.

Zimbabwe

Project: Train the Trainers.

Together with partners TDI, were assigned to provide a series of ‘train the trainer’ modules to management consultants throughout Zimbabwe. The project was part of an initiative by ZIM-TRADE, the export promotion board to enhance skills designed to enable trainers to help SMEs to export.

Ireland

Project: Euro Awareness Programme

Assigned to develop a Euro Awareness proposal for the dissemination of information to SMEs. This involved a series of initiatives designed to promote awareness of the Euro in the run-up to the introduction of the new currency unit.
