Tralee UDC Is Holding It's Monthly Meeting in the Town Hall on Mon. 4th December 2000 at 8:00pm
Remember Tralee UDC's Meeting (unless specified otherwise) are open to the public and the Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Miriam McGillycuddy, has extended an invitation to all to attend and see local democracy at work.
Here are details of some of the items for discussion in the Town Hall on Monday:

A deputation will be received prior to the commencement of the Meeting from the Gallowsfield Residents Association.

Cllr. Miriam McGillicuddy to ask that "the Council write to the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs and request that the Means Test for the Carers Allowance be abolished".

Cllr. Ted Fitzgerald to ask that
  • "this Council provide extra lighting in the Ballyard area and
  • carry out repairs to the road near the Soccer Field at Gallowsfield
  • "

Cllr. Tommy Foley to ask that "Tralee Urban District Council provide an update report on housing repairs at present with regard to:
  • Current waiting lists;
  • Funding allocated to repairs;
  • How long applicants are waiting for completion of repairs;
  • Personnel allocated to repairs;
  • Funding for essential repairs for the year 2001".
.
Waterford Corporation to ask that
  • "provision be made for young Student Mothers to register for Local Authority Housing as a full time Student progressing to third level education."
  • Rent allowance for teenage student mothers. Students in full-time education do not qualify for rent allowance and at present teenage student mothers in full-time education either. They are being classified just as a student with no consideration given to the fact that they are also young mothers. This is a tremendous block to progress as the cost of accommodation is so high, it is imperative that these young mothers and their children have suitable accommodation. It sometimes can be more costly in their case as not everywhere will take a child or is suitable for a young family. Waterford City Council proposes that this anomaly be addressed urgently and that the relevant Minister be contacted to ensure that the relevant funding is put in place."

The Meeting will also discuss
  • the fixing of a date for a special Meeting to discuss the Lee Valley Plan;
  • the fixing of a date for a Meeting to consider the Planning and Development Act 2000 and the Local Government Bill 2000;
  • job creation proposals;
  • Tralee Community Hospital;
  • Residents Associations.
