Tralee's Land Use and Transportation Study ('LUTS')
'Tralee Vision and Strategy' is an exciting new project currently taking place in Tralee. The time has come to prepare a new Development Strategy (called a Land Use and Transportation Study or LUTS) for the rapidly growing town of Tralee and its environs. Tralee is a new growth area and 'gateway' for the south west and County Kerry with many development pressures. For the first time a Development Strategy is being prepared for Tralee and its environs. The Strategy will cover the Electoral Area - all villages and towns around Tralee, including Fenit, Ardfert, Abbeydorney, Blennerville and Castleisland - and will consider the role and function of Castlemaine, Milltown and Farranfore and, in the wider context, Killarney. The study will produce a Strategy for future development in the area for the period 2001-2021, i.e. a long-term twenty-year timescale.
The Strategy will guide how and where development should occur in the future, providing an imaginative and robust framework for future growth and development. It will account for transport and traffic requirements/pressures, land use needs, environmental considerations and the need for local facilities and services, such as schools, shops and jobs.
To aid the process, a complex transport model has also been prepared by the development team. It will examine in detail the traffic and transportation effects of existing and future development, as alternative strategies are developed.
WHY?
WHO?
THE COMMUNITY ARE NEEDED
The Team has already conducted over 20 meetings with all key stakeholder organisations in the area. Now the Team needs to understand what type of town, area and development, the community wants in the future and also where it should occur.
