New Roundabout Ready For Christmas
It's the time of year when roadworks should be completed but Rock Street will soon have it's share of frantic activity - not because of heavy traffic, but because of the erection of a new roundabout at the Nolan's Garage junction.
Motorists and other road users will have noticed over the last number of days that preparatory work has already started on widening the road to make room for the roundabout, which is being carried out by Kerry County Council.
A spokesperson for Kerry County Council has confirmed to TraleeTown.com that the new roundabout is being put in place at this junction "to enhance the free-flow of traffic towards North Circular Road." This will mean that the existing log-jam at peak times should be alleviated and that traffic will generally be able to move more freely. An interesting feature of the new design is the intention to keep the existing traffic lights, apart from making a slight modification in relation to the pedestrian lights. The Council hopes that there will be minimal disruption to road-users during the construction phase and it is hoped that the work will be completed in time for Christmas.
