Tralee couple, Pat and Anne Moynihan from Rockwell Close are celebrating the birth of a baby girl after she was declared Kerry's first-born baby of the New Year. She was born just five hours into 2001 at Tralee General Hospital.
Pat, who works as a chef in the Grand Hotel and Anne, who works at the Bon Secours Hospital, already have two sons - Anthony (who will be 5 in April) and Ian (aged 2), are delighted to have a new daughter, whom they have decided to name Jessica. "The name was Pat's idea", Anne laughed - "I didn't have any say. We hadn't even chosen a boy's name, we were hoping for a girl. We both agreed that Jessica is a lovely name".
Anne was in fine form when she spoke to TraleeTown.com on Monday morning. "We actually celebrated the New Year at home last night", she said, "before heading for the Hospital at approx. 3 o'clock this morning. Jessica was born at 5 am, weighing 9 pounds and 12 ounces. We're delighted that it's a girl. Anthony and Ian will be very pleased to have a baby sister - Anthony especially because he was always convinced that we would be bringing home a girl."
She was somewhat surprised at the attention which she and Jessica had been receiving during the morning, with local newspapers and the local radio station expressing an interest and now the whole world being able to get details of the news on the internet! Meanwhile Jessica slept peacefully through the interview, blissfully unaware of all of the media attention which she was attracting, and just seven hours old .......
