Liam Lovell from Tralee was ordained to the priesthood in St. Brendan's Church, Tralee at 2:30pm by Bishop Bill Murphy on Sunday, 9th July. He was the first new priest to be ordained in the diocese of Kerry this year. The last time an ordination took place in St. Brendan's Church was 17 years ago (1983).
Liam spent the last four years in various colleges in Rome, having started studying for the priesthood seven years ago. His parents are Charles and Tess Lovell, Killeen, Oakpark and they, along with his sister, Maria, attended the ceremony on Sunday.
He gained his early education in the 1970's at the Christian Brothers School, The Green and he worked in the St. Vincent de Paul office in the town for a number of years before making the decision to study for the priesthood seven years ago. Fr. Lovell celebrated his first Mass in St. Brendan's on Monday evening, 10th July."
