What happened during 2001 ...

  • December : Granny and Donal (Dan) stayed in Newbridge again for Christmas. The festivities were interrupted by a break in Kilkenny's River Court Hotel (for us anyway).
  • November : Marie sat her two exams. We both found the month busier than ever with the threat of more to come in December! During those short days paid a visit to Powerscourt.
  • October : Passed my exam and Yours Truly is now a fully certified CISSP. Marie is getting ready for exams in early November and has recorded two radio shows on numeracy for NALA. Halloween was spent at the Longwill's in 'downtown' Caragh setting off fireworks. At the start of the month we were able to get down to Coleman and Catherine's wedding in Mitchelstown.
  • September : Paddled the Liffey Descent in a slalom on 8th Sept - much slower than a K1! I sat for the CISSP exam. And schools re-opened which resulting in the addition of 20 minutes to my commute time 8-( . The kitchen / living area is complete, except for some tiling, and it is great.
  • August : Jane Carter came to stay. Sarah & Jane set up camp in the new 'upstairs room'. Donal is preparing to fly to Donegal as I write and the New Kitchen is nearing completion. I paddled the Lower liffey race in a slalom as neither me nor my K1 is serviceable! .
  • July : Vacances en France a Le Clarys Plage en St Jean de Monts - a most convivial venue. Sarah followed this with a 10-day sojourn in upstate New York in the company of Jillian Ryan. .
  • June : Few stories to relate. Work started on our dining room (new floor) and a new kitchen. .
  • May : We started the Month with the Bealtaine festival. We ended the month by planning a refurbishment of kitchen and dining room. .
  • April : We went to Cork for Easter - it was Polo's first (and longest) car journey. He was not impressed with the idea and it was like trying to manage another child in the back seat. Newbridge Kayak Club finally got a web site.
  • March : The threat of Foot & Mouth resulted in postponement of St Patricks Day parade in Newbridge, and in most towns around the country. Daffodil day was later this year for us.
  • February : More frost and cold bringing with it a heavy fuel bill. NKC ranking race scheduled for 4th March was postponed at the last minute because of the Foot & Mouth emergency. Polo is still growing and is always in need of exercise. He has 'destroyed' the garden.
  • January 01 : Frost and cold strike the landscape so its time for Granny's annual excursion to the Antipodes. I finally got to repair my K1 and re-introduced it to the river, after which I promptly got the flu!
