Each year many people have accidents and sometimes serious ones with lasting physical incapacity. Many people who are injured in this way are unaware that they are entitled to financial compensation for their pain.

First of all, stop the vehicle, as the law requires that the driver of a vehicle involved in an accident shall immediately stop his vehicle at the scene of the accident. Get the registration number of the other vehicle. This is very important, as, if any other details are given or taken in error the owner of the other vehicle can be traced. Other information to be obtained are as follows:
Name and Address of the other driver Name and Address of the owner of the vehicle (if different) Insurance Company Policy Number
3. Report the accident to the Gardaí. When the Gardaí do not attend, go straight to the nearest Garda Station to where the accident occurred and give all of your details and details of the accident. It is very important to note at this stage - DO NOT COMMENT ON THE ACCIDENT - Admit nothing and sign nothing even if you think you are wrong.
4. If there are any witnesses at the scene of the accident, obtain their names and addresses. You may need their statement later.
5. Make notes at the scene of the accident as some details may slip your mind later.
