OutArt History

OutArt is a voluntary group which was set up in 1995 to promote the work of queer artists particularly in association with annual Pride events in Ireland. The group actively organises exhibitions and public discussions around issues of sexuality, community and art- practice. Previous OutArt shows have included:

1996 Pride In Diversity - The second OutArt show at the City Arts Centre, Dublin
1995 Divine Virtue - The first OutArt show at the Irish Film Centre, Dublin

The OutArt initiative is NOT rooted in the belief that there is a necessary or inevitable connection between sexual practices and art practices, or even between cultural identities and cultural production. Rather, we seek to create opportunities to explore notions of identity, pride, community and difference, with reference to visual arts practices.
