OUTART is currently planning projects for both 1998 and 1999.
At this point in time there are a number of possibilities being
considered. Firstly, there is the possibility of going for the big
international type show drawing on international artists with high
media profiles etc. Secondly there is the possibility of looking at
smaller venues not traditionally associated with art-production and
display but which are more central to gay and lesbian communities
etc. Thirdly there is the possibility of producing a travelling
exhibition which would show in Dublin, Belfast and/or London or
elsewhere. Fourthly there is the possibility of showing a
media-specific show e.g. live-art or film and video.
These and other proposals are still being discussed at
the most preliminary stage of development.
OutArt would particularly welcome proposals and suggestions
from anyone with an interest in the possible intersections between
contemporary visual art and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered
issues.
Part of the process of developing further Out-Art initiatives
is inevitably an interrogation of the basic rationale of attempting
to bring these two terms together: visual art and queer culture.
Thus we are planning a major public discussion for late 1997 on
precisely the issues at stake in attempting to foreground queer
dimensions in contemporary visual arts etc. As with our other
initiatives we welcome suggestions or proposals.
