THE STAR ABOVE THE GARTER. Denis Murphy and Julia Clifford. CC5CD. CD re-issue of the classic album of Sliabh Luachra fiddle music. Denis and Julia were brother and sister, pupils of the great Pádraig O’Keeffe. This album was made in 1969 when both were at the height of their musical inspiration, and has been unavailable for a while. It’s sometimes referred to as ‘one of the great fiddle albums of all time’.

LOWLANDS. Susan McKeown. GLCD 1205. Susan, from Dublin, has lived in New York for some years now and has made herself quite a reputation there. Her new album contains songs from Ireland, Scotland and England, in Gaelic and in English. She’s accompanied by musicians such as Johnny Cunningham, Joanie Madden, Kevin Crawford and ace guitarist Aidan Brennan.

THE DIAMOND MOUNTAIN SESSIONS. Sharon Shannon & Friends. GRACD 289. This is the first one of Sharon’s albums to feature songs. She recorded it in Connemara, and was joined by such friends as Steve Earle, Jackson Browne, John Prine, John Hoban and more.

THE IRISH MUSIC ANTHOLOGY. Various artists. R2CD 40-107. Double CD set of songs and tunes from the days of the 78 rpm record. Includes artists such as Delia Murphy, The Flanagan Brothers, Neily Boyle,Paddy Beades, Patsy Touhey and lots more.

CORK FOLK FESTIVAL ARCHIVE. Various artists. CFFCD 001. To celebrate their 21st anniversary, the people at the Cork Folk Festival have released this album of music recorded at the festival. The artists include Seamus Creagh & Jackie Daly, Gerry O’Connor, John Spillane, Patrick Street, Jimmy McCarthy, Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh, Frank Harte and many more. These are unique recordings, not available anywhere else.
