Master
Nicholls Seminar Znojmo, Czech Republic
January 2012.
Early
January seen Michael Flaherty and Bernadette
Doyle make a trip to the Czech Republic to
attend a Master Nicholls Master Class. This
was the first time members of Irish ITF had
gone to Znojmo but after the fantastic
reception we received from Mr Frantisek
Macek and the members of his group we will
certainly be returning for the I.I.C. with
Master Choi later in the year.
|
The Czech
Taekwon Do Federation had done fantastic
work in getting the seminar to the present
standard and it was very well attended with
Master Troiano taking students from Italy,
Master Karwandgen brought students from
Slovakia, Mr Dominik Maduna and his members
had made the trip from Croatia, Ralf Ufrecht
and some members of the Taekwon Do
Deutschland were also there, members from
Afghanistan and Austria, Czech Republic and
ourselves from Ireland made this a truely
International Master Class.
The seminar
was held over two days which gives everyone
in attendence a
good chance to become aquainted with the
Masters in attendence. The morning session
of Day 1 was taken up with many hours of
kicking techniques when Master Nicholls,
Master Troiano and Master Karwandgen put us
all through our paces and made certain that
all students understood what was required
from each technique and answered various
questions on how the techniques should be
performed. In the afternoon, we continued
with the fast pace and we spent about an
hour working on the kick pads / bags, going
over the various kicks from the morning
session before getting to work on the Colour
Belt patterns. |
|
The session
came to an end about 5pm but we were all
looking forward to the next day already.
In the
evening our hosts treated us to a meal to
sample some of the local food and in the
company of Master Nicholls and our German
friends we had a wonderful meal. Later we
were also invited to a local vineyard to
sample the local wines which were very
tasty.
The second
day started with a light warm up to loosen
up but the pace soon heated up and Master
Nicholls took each rank of Black Belt
through their patterns answering questions
as we went through them and making
corrections where necessary.
Another fantastic weekend of
Taekwon Do was finished off in style when we
were invited by our friend Jan Prochazka
invited us to his home for dinner with his
family, which for us was a fantastic
surprise and yet another example that
Taekwon Do is not just about punching and
kicking but more about building friendships
through the art.

Master
Trevor Nicholls will be returning to Wexford
again this year to keep Irish ITF members up
to speed in Taekwon Do.
We will be hosting Master Nicholls for the
third year on March 10th in
St Josheps Hall, Wexford on March 10th and
there will be a change to the way the
Seminar will be conducted this year. All
grades will be catered for in the morning
session and Black Belt only in the afternoon
session, which should give all those who
attend a chance to improve their technique
under the watchful eye of one of the
greatest exponents and most knowlegable
Masters of Taekwon Do in the world at
present.

I.T.F. European Championships, Naples, Italy.
Three members of Irish I.T.F. travelled to the recent
European Championships which were hosted by Master
Troiana in Naples. Ireland had one of the smallest teams
in attendance, however, small in numbers does not mean
small in stature, as it would turn out.
The competition was held over three days and first to
compete was Junior Adrian Kennelly from Redking Taekwon
Do. He performed well in Patterns and Sparring and
narrowly missed out on a medal in Power Breaking.
Ireland had three representatives in the Adult sections
for Patterns, Sparring, Power and Special Techniques.
Ruairi O' Brien and Felix Finke from Redking Taekwon Do
together with Irish I.T.F. assistant instructor John O'
Connor. All three of the lads performed really well in
such elite company, John progressed to round two in both
Patterns and Sparring before losing out to opponents
from Team UK. Ruairi secured a Silver Medal in Patterns
behind Team UK and Felix performed really well in the
Special Techniques.
Irish I.T.F. instructors Mick Flaherty and Bernadette
Doyle were Irelands representatives in the Senior
(+35yrs) sections. Bernadette secured a Gold medal in
Sparring after her opponent withdrew and then went on to
take Silver in Patterns before getting a second Silver
in the Power Breaking. Mick Flaherty also proved his
metal with three exceptional performances in his
sections. He secured Ireland's first Gold medal in 5th
Degree Patterns ahead of Sweden and Team UK, then after
beating Holland in the semi final he lost narrowly to
Germany in the -64Kgs Lightweight Sparring section. With
two medals in the bag Mick entered the Power Breaking as
the lightest and smallest competitor but still managed
to secure a Bronze medal behind Moldova and Bulgaria.
With six medals being won by members of Irish I.T.F. we
have shown that the hours of hard training, endless
dieting and determination stood to our members, and once
again it has been proven that the level at which the
Wexford Taekwon Do school operates is very definitely
world class.
International Instructors
Course, Cork, Ireland.
In late September five members of Irish I.T.F. made the
trip down to Cork to attend the 3 day International
Instructors Course which was hosted by ITF Eireann.
It was the first time that Chris May and Ryan Byrne had
attended such an event and they were really excited and
eager to get going with the training. Master Choi led
the training from the outset in a seminar of 100
participants, teaching correct technique and answering
the many questions being posed by the members. After
about an hour Master Choi handed over the class to two
of the Italian Masters in attendance, with Master Lecca
taking us through some kicking techniques for free
sparring and Master Martella took us through some new
stretching exercises.
The second day started with Master Wheatley from USA
going over some of the fundamental movements and with so
many attending there were some differences in technique
which were corrected by the Masters. To start Saturday
afternoon, Master Creedon took the group through some
kicking drills which were very enjoyable and the Maste
rChoi took over again to continue with the teaching. On
Saturday evening there was a banquet in honour of Master
Choi and this gave everyone a chance to enjoy a meal and
some good chat with our Taekwon Do friends.
Sunday morning saw Master Nicholls take us through
Patterns, and once again many questions were answered
and adjustments made. For Ryan Byrne the Sunday was very
special as he was taking his test up to 1st Degree Black
Belt in the afternoon, so everything that was being
taught by Master Choi and Master Nicholls was being
taken in. After lunch there was an arranged photo shoot
before we all settled back into training for another few
hours.
Once the course finished Ryan was ready to test and he
put in a fantastic test in front of Master Nicholls and
we are really proud of the performance he put in.

Wexford Taekwon Do Kup Cup
Competition.
On the 18th of September in St Josephs Hall Bishopswater,
Irish ITF hosted the annual Kup Cup competition. This is
a Taekwon Do competition for colour belt students only.
Kup is the Korean term used
for a colour belt grade. Medals were awarded for 1st,
2nd and 3rd place, with points awarded towards the
highest total to win the Kup Cup.
After many months of hard training, the day of the
competition arrived and the students of Irish ITF put in
a fantastic day of competition. Competitors from all
over Ireland and Wales made this a very well attended
and tough competition for the Wexford Taekwon Do school. |
|
The final haul of medals for Wexford was: 25 gold, 12
silver and 10 bronze which gave us a commanding points
total of 221 over lasts years winner Tullow TKD. Over 90
participants competed
on the day and the first Wexford gold medal was won by
Mary Long in the pattern section and from then on our
students put in many spectacular pattern performances to
give us an unbeatable lead before the start of sparring
sections had even started.
There were many more hard fought performances in the
sparring with the final Wexford gold medal being won by
10 year old Chelsey Pitman. It was then decided that
Mary and Chelsey would receive the Kup Cup on behalf of
Irish ITF and Wexford.
The day was an outstanding success for our school and
put Wexford town on the map. It would not however have
been possible without the help and support of our
students and their parents and we would like to thank
all of them and to thank our instructors and referee's
for their professional approach and fairness on the day.

Black Belt Grading
On Saturday 26th March, Master Trevor Nicholls 8th
degree and Master Gary Gassor 7th degree, conducted
a black belt grading for
3 students.
Ricky Byrne tested for 3rd degree, William Tyghe
tested for 2nd degree and Kyle Mendez from Eastcoast
TKD tested for 1st degree.
The test was very difficult and covered all aspects
of Taekwon Do. Firstly the masters put them through
their paces with Patterns, before moving on to step
sparring, free sparring, 2 on 1 sparring, self
defence, destruction and finally theory.
There was much relief and joy when Master Nicholls
announced their respective promotions.
Congratulations to all students!
Masters Seminar
Friday evening on 25th March saw the return of
Master Nicholls 8th degree to Wexford. He was
accompanied by Master Gary Gassor 7th degree from
Wales on his first visit to Wexford. Also in
attendance was Master Norman Creedon 8th degree from
Cork.
The master class covered various aspects of the
Taekwon Do syllabus, focusing on kicking technique
and increasing power through correct line and angle.
With the class ranging from yellow belt to 5th
degree black belt, the Masters ensured that every
student worked continuously throughout the 2 hour
seminar.
After a presentation of Newbridge Silver to the
Masters and a photo opportunity, some of the group
went for dinner with Master Nicholls and Master
Gassor to Chans Restaurant, where the coversations
continued. We would like to thank all of the ITF
instructors from around Ireland who supported our
event.
Master Nicholls Seminar
Friday 25th
March will see the return to Wexford of Irish ITF
president and secretary general of the ITF, Master
Trevor Nicholls 8th degree.
He will be accompanied by Master Gary Gassor 7th
degree from Wales.
On Saturday 26th March, Master Nicholls will be
conducting a black belt test for William Tyghe,
Ricky Byrne and Kyle Mendez (Eastcoast TKD).
We are expecting a strong turnout for this
prestigious event and a full report and photos will
follow soon.
First Aid/ Instructor and Umpire courses
Assistant
instructor, Bernie Doyle, travelled to ITF
headquarters in London on Friday 11th March to take
part in the annual first aid course and then on the
Saturday the BTC registered instructor course.
These courses are mandatory for all our instructors
and will now be held annually in London each Spring.
Fridays course covered emergency first aid and the
particpants practiced resuscitation and
administration of general first aid.
Saturday saw a change of venue and more than 100
instructors from all over the U.K and Ireland cover
subjects such as: code of conduct, child protection,
insurance , health, risk and safety and CRB check
(Garda vetting).
Mr Flaherty then travelled over on Sunday to take
part in the Umpire course conducted by Mr Mark
Skyrme. After many hours of studying the ITF rules
and electronic scoring system, a written exam took
place and Mr Flaherty was awarded an "A" class
umpires certificate. This allows him to officate at
all ITF sanctioned tournaments.
Grading
Sunday 6th
March saw the first colour belt grading of 2011 and
also there were two members, Mr William Tyghe and Mr
Ricky Byrne, who had a preliminary test for black
belt.
All students who took the colour belt grading
performed very well on the day, especially Szymon
Kajfasz who was the top scorer on the day and was
double promoted to yellow belt!
Welsh Championships 2011
Sunday
February 27th seen the latest successful outing by
the members of the Irish I.T.F. Academy which is
based in Kerlogue, when a group of 12 competitors
and parents went to Cardiff for the I.T.F. Wales
Championship.
This is a huge event with about 500 competitors
taking part, but this didn't stop the Wexford based
competitors who won 3 Gold,
4 Silver and 7 Bronze medals.
Mick Flaherty, who is
chief instructor at the academy, was the winner of
first medal of the day when he picked up Bronze in
Patterns and this was quickly followed by Silver in
Sparring. Next in the medals was Assistant
Instructor Bernadette Doyle taking Silver in
Patterns and our first Gold medal of the day when
she was a clear points winner in Sparring. Then John
O' Connor took Bronze in both Patterns and Sparring.
Willie Tyghe made a very promising comeback to
competition after some six years absence and was
narrowly beaten in the quarter final stage in
Sparring.
With the Black Belt competition coming to a close,
it was the turn of the Coloured Belt members to take
to the floor. Some of our members were making their
debut in competition, however, this didn't stop some
fantastic performances.
Seven year old Luke Byrne won a Gold medal in
Sparring then Silver in Patterns, Chelsey Pitman
took two Bronze medals,
Ruairi O' Sullivan took a hard fought Bronze medal
after six fights in Sparring, Rokas Baika secured a
Bronze also in Sparring, Ryan Byrne also took Silver
in Sparring in a really close contest. Martin Foley
performed brilliantly in Patterns and was narrowly
out pointed in his Sparring contest. Six year old
Nina May Brady put in fantastic performance in both
Sparring and Patterns, and showed that she has huge
potential.
Steffan Walsh showed that nothing was going to stop
him taking Gold in his first big competition. After
missing the call for his sparring section, the chief
umpire allowed him to step up to the next weight
category, but the lighter man would not be denied
and took a fantastic win to massive cheers from all.
The success of this trip highlights the hard work
and dedication of the students and the instructors.
We would like to thank the students and parents for
their support in making Irish I.T.F. a massive
success in the Taekwon Do world.

Kup Cup Competition.
The
academy held its first competition on Sunday
November 28th. It was a fantastic success, given
that
there had been two days of heavy snow falling in the south east of
Ireland which have led to hazardous
driving conditions. The competition was very strong with members of Tullow
Taekwon Do, Redking
Taekwon Do and East Coast Taekwon Do taking on our Imperial Ireland
members. The first winners of the
Kup Cup are Tullow Taekwon Do who narrowly defeated the hosts by 120
points to 104.
The idea behind this competition is to encourage coloured belt students to
enter competitions, so with
|
many of our members competing for the first time
against other schools it was a brilliant
opportunity for them to show their skills in
patterns and sparring. Some of the highlights
for our school were 5 year old Nina May Brady
taking Gold in both Patterns and Sparring
sections, the final of the boys under 10 between
Jack O' Connor and Ruairi O' Sullivan who,
despite being classmates, made for an exciting
tie. In White - Green Patterns section Chelsey
Pitman and Mark Henebery put in excellent
performances to take a Gold medal each.
Congratulations to all our members and we are
delighted with the fighting spirit shown on the
day.
A
huge thank you to all those who made the trip
and made for great competition and
entertainment. Congratulations to Tullow Taekwon
Do members and to their Instructor Mr Jimmy
Dowling, who has been a close Taekwon Do friend
for many years now. |
Coloured Belt Grading. |
|
The grading at the Academy which took place on
Sunday November 7th was a fantastic success and
all twenty six of those who tested passed. It
started at 10am and the first group out set a
very high standard for the rest to follow. Three
students were successful in being double
promoted, they were Pierce Bowen who impressed
very highly in his first test. Martin Foley and
Mark Henebery scored joint highest on the day
and were promoted up to blue stripe.
Congratulations to all who tested and keep up
the hard work.

International
Instructor Course Hong Kong.
It
was our great pleasure to attend the most recent International
Instructors Course which was hosted by Master David Lau in
Hong Kong on October 15 - 17th 2010. When we completed the
first leg of the trip from Dublin to London we met up with
Imperial Ireland's President, Master Nicholls who was
accompanied by Master Hogan
and we travelled with them on the lengthy twelve hour flight.
Upon arrival in Hong Kong we were greeted at the airport by
members of the Hong Kong Original Taekwon Do Council and then
also met with Grand Master Choi who then travelled by coach
with us to our hotel.
With
a packed weekend in store, Thursday evening was the only spare
time we would have so we took a trip to the main shopping area in
downtown Hong Kong called Tsim Sha Tsui, where we sampled some
of the local dishes and the truly amazing range of goods on
sale there.
In
preparation for Friday evenings training and registration we
ran through all of our patterns in the hotel sports centre and
prepared some questions for the Masters who would be in
attendance later. The venue was Tong Kwok Wah Secondary School
and it was within walking distance so we strolled over with Mr
Harizanov and three of his students from Bulgaria, they were
all due to test at the event together with Mr Alan
Stewart from Australia. The I.I.C. was opened by Grand Master
Choi thanking the organisers for the invitation to teach there
and the opening training session was conducted by Master's
Hogan and Kruk. The masters took turns to increase the
severity of the warm up, but with temperatures of about twenty
degrees it was very easy to see everyone sweating heavily
after only a few minutes. Master Hogan took the class through
many sparring combinations on the kick shields, working
through each one for several minutes before moving on to the
next level. After a short interval for water, and to allow
Grand Master Choi, Master Nicholls, Master Sng, Master Poon
and Master Lau to
take those who were testing to another hall, Master Kruk
resumed with Self Defence techniques for kids. Because the
opening night was open to all from white belt to black belt,
young and old, this section of training went down brilliantly.
Then after a really good warm down t here were photo
opportunities for all the different groups in attendance.
After a quick shower and change of clothes we were taken to a
Chinese restaurant for dinner with Grand Master Choi and all
of the other Masters and Instructors from Hong Kong. Tired but
very satisfied by the events of the first day we retired back
to the hotel for some much needed rest.
Day
two started about 10 am when were again addressed by Grand
Master Choi regarding the current developments in the I.T.F.
He spoke about how successful the recent World Championships
had been for I.T.F. Taekwon Do, how the coverage of the events
had taken precidence over World Cup news on the Korean
television news broadcasts which would have been unheard of a
few years ago. He spoke at length regarding I.T.F. as being
the orthodox Taekwon Do and of how it is slowely returning to
its Korean roots with the Taekwon Do centre which will bring
the I.T.F. and W.T.F. under one roof and it is due to open in
Korea in 20013/14. Grand Master Choi also said that we must
continue to train hard to perfect our techniques because we
perform a martial art and that whilst " sport
sparring" will always have a part to play in Taekwon Do
it is Tul which are the heart of our art and that this must
never change. He gave a brief meaning of the word "Tul",
telling us how it roughly translates to mean mould and
finishing off his speech by re-iterating that Tul are the
mould by which Taekwon Do is made.
After
another interesting warm up by Master Hogan, Grand Master Choi
and Master Nicholls took over the instruction of the seminar.
Drilling on the correct execution of techniques and ensuring
that power was being generated and delivered regardless of the
size of the exponent through correct use of body mass and
natural hip rotation. After the lunch break Master Kruk's
presentation on "One Step and Model Sparring" was
really well done and we then worked for about an hour on these
types of technical sparring. Just before the end of the
session Grand Master Choi spoke about how some instructors
call themselves coaches, however, he said that true
instructors are teachers of Taekwon Do not just helpers to
improve one skill or facet of fitness. He said that theTaekwon
Do Instructor was a much deeper responsibility because it is a
role that has to deal with the moral teaching and wisdom of
the students. Saturday night saw
the entire group go to another restaurant for endless courses
of food and we were delighted to be the proud winners of a
Taekwon Do manual written in Chinese and also a $200 sports
voucher.
Sunday
morning's session began with the official photograph and this
was followed by an really fun warm up by Master Kruk, followed
with many hours of patterns
work. We worked from Chong Ji up to Won Hyo but the
instruction was intense and the main theme was that while
there must also be an element of beauty, power must
prevail. The afternoon session started back with the entire
group going through the basic kicking techniques of Front
Snap and Side Piercing, the emphasis was once again on correct
execution of the techniques and also on full power. Master
Kruk once again hosted another presentation which was about
three Step Sparring, once again it was both informative
and entertaining. Grand Master Choi wrapped things up with a
very moving speech regarding the term we use of "Grand
Master". He said that for him to use this term does not
sit well and that when one reads the Chinese characters for
grand it actually translates as "Saint", however, he
said that to say that really demeans the word Saint. He also
said that he was very happy that his father General Choi has
bestowed the rank of VIII Degree on him but that was he was
only human and as a result he too has failings. There can be
no Grand Masters in martial arts and it is shameful for a true
martial artist to make such a claim. Sunday night was party
night, another opportunity to have some fun, take photographs
and a final chance to relax with some new Taekwon Do friends
after some hard days on the training hall floor. The final act
for this I.I.C. was the presentation of the certificates of participation.
The knowledge we have gained here will be put into action at
the academy in the coming weeks so that when our students
progress to the next level they will be performing the true
Taekwon Do as set out by President Choi here.
This
was the most extraordinary and surreal event that we have had
the opportunity to attend. To spend so much time in the
company of President Choi and all of the Masters who attended
and taught us made this such a special trip. Many thanks go to
our Hong Kong hosts who made sure that nothing was left to
chance and we were looked after like royalty. We have been
invited to return and it was our great pleasure to offer
members of the Hong Kong Original Taekwon Do Council to come
to train with us if the opportunity ever presents
itself.
Imperial
British Championships.
This
year the British Championships were the biggest I.T.F.
championships outside of the World Championships. With well
over 700 competitors taking part from all over England,
Scotland, Wales, South Africa, Spain, Italy and Nepal. The
seven Imperial Ireland members who travelled over made a huge
impact by winning one Gold, three Silver, and two Bronze
medals.
Saturday
October 9th saw our team arrive early to collect our
competitor numbers and with children under 13 years and
seniors (35 years +) competing on this first day we were
looking forward to making our mark. First
up competing in patterns, was 7 year old Luke Byrne and he
performed exceptionally well by progressing through three
rounds before losing out to the eventual winner. Rokas Baika
was next up and he performed with great confidence,
unfortunately he met the winner of the section in round two.
Ryan Byrne progressed through two rounds before making his
exit. These were brilliant performances because this was the
first competition the boys had attended and what a place to do
it. Instructor Mick Flaherty was up next and he secured our
first medal, a Silver in 5th Degree Black Belt Patterns. With
one medal in the bag, everyone began to relax and the
performances in the Sparring reflected this, when Luke secured
a well deserved Bronze and Rokas won Silver after some
brilliant matches, and Mick picked up another Silverin a very
hard encounter. Ryan had a tough section and was unlucky not
to get in the medals.
Sunday
October 10th was the turn of the other three members to
take on the opposition. John O' Connor and Ricky Byrne in
Black Belt sections and Owen Beaufils in Coloured Belts. In
Patterns sections, John progressed as far as round two but
unfortunately Ricky and Owen were beaten. In Sparring, Owen
who was competing in his first competition, fulfilled all
expectations by putting in three exceptional performances,
winning the Gold medal and becoming the British champion. The
Adult Black Belt sections are the most hotly contested
sections at these events, so when Welterweight Ricky stepped
onto mats he knew it would be tough going. He fought with
great style and aggression and was only beaten by four points
in the end and this was his first competition for about six
years. John had put in some fantastic performances in Korea a
few months back so this was his chance to prove he had made
progress since and after some hard fights he secured the
Bronze in the Middleweight division.
As
part of the Imperial Taekwon Do Association these
championships are the highlight of our year. Success here and
also at the World Championships in Korea last July shows the
strength of our Taekwon Do and the talent that lies in our
academy.
New
Classes.
There will be
some new classes starting at the Academy from Tuesday October
19th. These new classes will be catering for children aged 4 -
6 years. The classes will run from 6pm - 6.45pm, on Tuesday
and Thursday. The class times for 7 - 12 years remains the
same, running 7 - 8pm and 12 years + from 8pm - 9pm.
Kicking
Seminar.
Fresh
back from Korea, Mr John O' Connor was the main attraction
when he done his first Kicking Seminar at the Academy on
August 29th. He went through a full array of
kicks including Single, Double and Treble kicks, Jumping,
Flying and Combination
kicks. This was a two hour seminar and it was really good fun,
with lots of laughs and falling down as the students tried to
get their feet to move in many different directions. Go to our
Facebook page for photo's!
Coloured
Belt Grading.
|
|
On
Sunday July 27th, twenty members of Imperial Ireland who had
been training hard over the summer months took part in a very
tough grading. Lots of kicks and Patterns were performed and
all members testing performed Breaking techniques. The best
students on the day were, Rokas Baika, Chelsey Pitman and
Rhianna Ryan who did fantastic tests and were rewarded for
their hard work with Double Promotions from Yellow Stripe to
Green Stripe. Congratulations to all who tested.
Our
next test is scheduled for Sunday 31st October, which is only
three weeks after the British Championships. |
World
Championships Cheong Ju, Korea. July 4 - 8th 2010.
|
|
It
was the first World Championships that Imperial Ireland
students Bernadette Doyle and John O' Connor had attended but
it was successful beyond
belief for both of them. Together with their instructor Mick
Flaherty, they headed from Dublin with high hopes and dreams
of success.
After a few days acclimatising to the heat and humidity of Korea and
a couple of hard training sessions in the park near the hotel
the Imperial group headed to Cheong Ju city to meet the rest
of the Ireland team for registration, which
had a few hitches but gave the team a bit of down
time. |
As
with all major I.T.F. championships the patterns event is
first to be contested and after very strong showing by both
Bernadette and John no medals were won. However, on Day 2 when
the Sparring competition began for some sections the real gold
rush began. Bernadette was the first of our competitors and
from the opening flurries against Christine Fears from the
U.S.A. it was very clear there was going to be only one
winner. At the end of this first bout Bernadette won by a
clear 12 point margin of 20 points to 8. With just three
minutes rest before the final, Bernadette knew that all those
hours of extra training would be called upon now against her
new opponent Vicky Hart from England. The first round of their
bout was a tight affair but Bernadette was leading by 2 points
at the break. The second round was to prove decisive and
Bernadette romped home with 8 points to spare and the gold
medal secure.
Not
to be outdone, John O' Connor put in the performance of a
lifetime in both Patterns and Sparring. He was beaten in the
pool finale in both events. He had stopped his first opponent
from the U.S.A. and in his second round fight had a clear 6
points victory over a opponent from Croatia, but his last
opponent from Argentina proved a little more tricky and he was
beaten by 2 points. In the Patterns section John's ability
shone and he beat opponents from Sweden and Scotland before
losing out to Italy. John was slightly disappointed but he has
never performed at this level before and he now understands
what it takes to progress to the next level.
Once
the gold was won it was a spur to win more so with both John
and Bernadette in the Power team they set about smashing their
way to Bronze medals from both Male and Female Power. Video
footage of both Bernadette and John available on Youtube.
This
was proof that Taekwon Do in the South East is of world
standard, and this will continue to be the case as we have
many more potential champions at the Imperial Ireland Academy,
just waiting in the wings. |
