About
Timber Frame Housing
The main difference between
traditional building and timber frame is that the inner shell is constructed from a timber
structure. Exterior walls are still built in the conventional way. In this way you enjoy
the benefits of timberframe inside the home, without compromising on the strength afforded
by conventional block walls on the outside.
In a timberframe house, the basic structure consists of wooden wall panels, timber
flooring and roofing materials built upon a timber framework. These timber components are
nailed to the framework to provide a sturdy skeleton around which the external walls of a
conventional house are built.

The timberframe
construction process
- The first step in the
construction of any house is for the architect to prepare detailed building plans.
- Once these plans have been
drafted and passed, the foundations can be laid.
- At this stage The Timber
Frame Company can take the plans and use them to design the necessary timberframe
structure.
- While the foundations are
being prepared, our team will be manufacturing the frame.
- When the foundations are
set, our team arrives on site, erects the frame and constructs all the timber elements of
the house.
Within the space of 4 to 6
weeks, all timber aspects of the construction, including the timberframe structure,
panelling, doors, window frames and skirting, will be complete, and decorating can begin.
Alternatively, if you wish to build your own home or employ your own construction team,
The Timber Frame Company can use your plans and the latest in timberframe design software
to produce detailed construction plans, bills of materials, and the timberframe building
kit for the self-builder.
Computer-aided design
techniques
The Timber
Frame Company designers use the latest in timberframe
design computer software. This revolutionary new software package uses real building
elements to model the design in every detail, exactly as the house will be built. Our
designers study the house plans and use the software to generate detailed drawings,
renderings and precise material estimates to ensure maximum efficiency in all aspects of
the construction. |
