Past Pupils Union

St Michael’s College Past Pupil’s Union is a relatively young Union being formed in 1987, eleven years after our first Leaving Cert class in 1976. From small beginnings our Union has grown to a membership of some 450 past pupils who enjoy a full calendar of social events designed to keep us in touch with each other and with the College itself.

The objectives of the Union are:

The Union seeks to provide a number of forums to bring past pupils together.
Our main Reunion events include:

Annual Dinner
Business Lunch
Golf Outing
Social Night

Each year we remember our fellow past pupils who have passed away through an offering of the holy sacrifice of the Mass in the School for the repose of their souls. In 1998, for the first time, a Vigil Mass will be celebrated on Christmas Eve in the School Library at 6.00 p.m. giving Past Pupils and their families an opportunity to celebrate Christmas together.

We maintain our direct links with the school through participation at the Mock Interviews with the Sixth Year Class, organising a Past v Present Debate, sponsoring the Sixth Year academic medals, organising a Past v Present v Teachers Golf Match and sponsoring the First Year Debating Competition.

The Community and staff of St Michael’s are most supportive of the Union and have assisted greatly in its growth. It is now an established tradition within the College for the President of the Union to present the academic prizes at both the senior and junior school prizegiving ceremonies and to address the Sixth Year Graduation Ceremony.

We also organise a biannual dinner in London on the eve of the Ireland v England match at Twickenham.

Where possible we organise events, such as our annual dinner, in the school itself to reinforce the links of past pupils with the College. Forthcoming Union events for 1997/98 are listed below together with the current year’s committee.

In 1999 we will be setting up "The St Michael’s Foundation". This will provide a formal structure under which past pupils, if they so wish, can seek help from their former schoolmates. Help will mainly be provided through the provision of advice and contacts. The Foundation will seek to build up a Fund over the next few years so that it is in a position to provide some financial assistance where required.

Past Pupil’s of St Michael’s are proud of their school and want to continue their association with the school itself and with their school friends through their membership of the Union. Should you wish to join us please contact our membership secretary Alan Doran at 282 6339 (H), 609 3299 (O) or by email at dedoran@iol.ie.
