Elizabeth N Colby 1840 |
|
Elizabeth N Colby was born in 1840 in Bungay and died in 1928. According to The Colby Connection Lizzie, the second daughter of George and Elizabeth Colby, was a buyer in millinery for a firm in lpswich (or possibly Norwich). She was disappointed not to have inherited something from her uncle's estate, after she had helped her sister look after hIs children. Her Pomeranian dog was named Jimmy (was this significant - perhaps she occasionally kicked it!). Unlike her sister, Lizzie's pleasures were more temporal than spiritual. Life at Bridge House had given her a taste for 'Johnny Walker' and she liked to keep a little by her. Frank(sen) remembers her carrying a candle and spilling the wax as she climbed the stairs-although she persistently denied that she did. She lived to the ripe old age of 88 but became too much of a responsibility for the family and ended her days in a nursing home in Croydon. |
