    LETTER OF SOLIDARITY

WITH THE JAPANESE PEACE WALK

AND THE COMMEMORATION CEREMONIES AT HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI.

This year we commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On this occasion, the members of the Irish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (Irish CND) would like to express our solidarity with the Japanese Peace Walk from Tokyo to Hiroshima, and with the ceremonies of commemoration at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Ireland is a nuclear-free country, and our major cities are nuclear-weapon -free zones. Our members support the Mayors for Peace Campaign led by the Mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We must all support one another in the struggle for the Total Abolition of nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass-destruction.

We send our greetings to our many friends in Japan, including those who visited us in Ireland - members of the Peace Movements and of the Peace Pole organisation, and the Buddhist monks from Nipponzan Myohoji. We will be holding our own commemorations in solidarity with you in Dublin and in Cork.

We thank our member, Pauric Cannon, for conveying our message of solidarity to you all, and ask him to express our special sympathy for the Hibakusha.

        Signed,

                    Rev. Fergal Brennan,

Chairman, Irish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
