Brady - "Bus Corridor Daft"
Statement by Peter Brady, Fine Gael Local Election Candidate,
Lucan/Palmerstown/Quarryvale.
"It's daft to put a Bus Corridor on Newcastle Road at Esker
Church" says Peter Brady. "There is a high volume of
traffic on this section of road and it is congested most of the
time. There are three schools with nearly two thousand students,
two primary and a secondary school and this would prove a hazard
to school going children. There is also a
church for this very large parish whichs brings its own traffic.
In addition, there is a very busy supermarket, Superquin, with
constant traffic all through the day."
This road is used mainly as a short cut from the Tallaght and
Clondalkin areas. It greatly effects the local estates of Arthur
Griffith Park, Westbury, Hillcrest, Cannon Brook
and the new estates in Finnstown. The noise level for the people
near the road is very heavy.
"I support the Transport Users plan for a short section
of road from Pollyhops on Nangor Road to the Celbridge road which
would greatly reduce the traffic problems above and
then the buses would have no delay. It would also take the traffic
off Tandys lane causing a nightmare to the people of Dodsboro."
Continued Peter Brady "I am very much in favour
of bus lanes but one in this location would be of no benefit.
It would add to the rat running in this area."
Peter Brady now calls on the Roads and Traffic manager of SDCC
to meet with representatives of the above resident associations
before any traffic calming on NewCastle Road.
