Peter Brady's 10-Point Plan for a better Lucan
Statement by Peter Brady, Fine Gael Local Election Candidate,
Lucan/Palmerstown/Quarryvale.
These are the priorities I will work on for the next years
in Lucan. They form an integrated plan designed to make Lucan
a better place to live in." says Peter Brady.
1. Transport is my No.1 priority. A train station must be opened
at Griffeen Valley as soon as possible. There are train tracks
on both sides of Lucan yet NO train stops here! Its crazy
that people in Lucan are stuck in traffic jams while a train which
would have them in the centre of town in 10 minutes whizzes past.
2. Creation of a Liffey Valley National Park and push for the
Government to propose the Liffey Valley for inclusion on the UNESCO
List of World Heritage sites.
3. I support the current Draft Development Plan. In particular,
I pledge to oppose any attempt to rezone St. Edmundsbury, as I
opposed such attempts in the past.
4. New Secondary School for Lucan and additional primary school
places. Government representatives deny there is a shortage of
school places in Lucan! YOU KNOW BETTER.
5. I pledge to oppose all attempts to run an Outer Ring Road
through residential areas of Lucan. The line for this Ring Road
must be re-located to the west of Lucan.
6. More Gardai needed on the beat in Lucan. Two years ago, this
Government promised 2000 extra Gardai. NONE have been delivered.
The Minister for Justice now admits There is massive sustained
crime in Dublin (Morning Ireland 18/5/04) but hes
doing NOTHING about it!
7. Leisure Facilities are needed for our young people in this
rapidly growing area. As a Councillor, I will work for a Swimming
Pool, Skate Board Park and Theatre/Arts Centre for Lucan.
8. More crèche and child care facilities are needed. The
Government should offer tax incentives to major employers to provide
on-site child care facilities. The Department of Education should
also review the use of taxpayers assets i.e. schools for
possible use after hours in the provision of childcare and facilities
for youth activities.
9. I pledge to oppose further development at Weston Aerodrome
and the intensification of existing activities there. Increased
use of the aerodrome is seriously affecting the quality of life
in Weston and adjoining areas through noise pollution and danger
from low-flying aircraft.
10. Adamstown is the largest development in Lucan for the past
twenty years. When complete, it will have a population of 20,000
people! I did not support the development at Adamstown but now
that a Planning Scheme has been approved by the present Council,
it is essential that the phased development it provides for is
adhered to. The necessary infrastructure and community facilities/amenities
must be provided at each stage, before it proceeds to the next
stage. As a Councillor, I will be vigilant in monitoring the development
and ensuring that this phased programme is adhered to.
These are my priorities for the next five years in Lucan.
