Legend Seve Ballesteros was
disqualified from the Murphy's Irish Open after signing for a
10 instead of a 12 at the 18th.
The Spanish maestro, 45, hit
four balls into the water at the 507 yard finishing hole on his
way to an eighteen over par 89.
But he signed for an 87 and
headed to his hotel before realising his mistake.
Seve then phoned Chief Referee
John Paramor and told him that he had signed for a 10 instead
of a 12.
According to a statement released
by the European Tour, "Seve was upset and apologised
to all involved in the tournament, stating that he wished his
tournament had not ended like this."
The Spaniard's second shot
to the par five finished in the lake. He then pitched three balls
in the water in an attempt to finish close to the flag before
hitting the green with his tenth shot and two-putting for a 12.
Out in 40, he had quadruple
bogey nine at the par five 10th after finding the water there
too.
