To the start of WOODARCH Paleo-Biology

Wood, charcoal, seeds and pollen from archaeological excavations and natural sediments (peats).

Services include: site investigation, sampling/advice on sampling strategies (e.g. choice for dendrochronological datable samples), analysis of botanical material, text for publication.

Information: reconstruction environment in which prehistoric man lived and the way he managed it. Gathering information on past woodlands.

WORKING EXPERIENCE
1996- Last years working in close co-operation with Mags Gowen & Co., Glenageary at Derryville bog (Lisheen mines) and Exchange Street Upper (Temple Bar, Dublin).
Palaeo-environmental work (seeds, pollen, wood and charcoal) on various projects in Netherlands and Ireland.
1995-1996 Wood and charcoal from terp Wijnaldum (Friesland). Manuscript in preparation.
1994 Ilipinar-Hacilar Tepe (Turkey): advisor archaeological excavations for The Netherlands Historical Archaeological Institute in Istanbul.
1989 Various projects on wood and charcoal in Netherlands for Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.
1981-1984 Research on pollen, following a grant by WOTRO. Research proceeded at the faculty of mathematics and natural science of Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.
1978-1981 Student-assistant. Various projects with wood and charcoal from archaeological deposits for Biologisch Archaeologisch Institute in Groningen.

Experience: Europe (Netherlands, Ireland, England, France), Far East (Indonesia), North Africa (Carthage), Near East (Turkye). Several publications. Last years working in close co-operation with Mags Gowen & Co., Glenageary at Derryville bog (Lisheen mines) and Exchange Street Upper (Temple Bar, Dublin).

Focus for coming years: Irish prehistoric sites.
