Miss
Lillet Shannon Banks has been crowned the first Alternative Miss Limerick. Miss
Lillet Shannon Banks is set to take the social scene by storm after
becoming the very first Alternative Miss Limerick. After elegant day wear
and sassy swim wear, Miss Lillet made her final appearance in a sky blue
period costume accompanied by her four minders. In a lightening
transformation, she changed from Marie Antoinette to Jean Butler and
Riverdanced her way to the title. Miss Lillet enjoys taking the five mile
road on a Saturday night. Her favourite fantasy is to have a night
of passion with Daniel O’Donnell. She
is hoping the securing the coveted Alternative Miss Limerick title will
shoot her to River Dance style stardom. In addition to the title itself,
Miss Lillet went home armed with prizes including flights, ferry
crossings, dinner, designer garb, a hair voucher and a box of cds and
videos. Due to the strength of the competition it was decided at the last
minute to award a runner up who will go to any social engagements
that the Alternative Miss Limerick can not attend. Miss Titney Queers from
Galway voted for the honour and The Mustard Seed Restaurant very kindly
jumped in with the offer of dinner for two and an overnight stay for her
and a friend. Titney has a natural liking for spotlight, and a
dislike for corduroy and flannel. Her ambition is to cleanse, tone
and moisturise on a global scale, to become the ultimate pop tartlet and
to promote a universal sense of taste and flare for alternative
types. The
judging panel were selected for their diversity and consisted of Cissy
Always from Yum-Yum, Nuala Carey from RTE weather, Liam Grier fashion
designer, Laurent Terris from the Gay Community News, and a member of the
Gay Switchboard Limerick. “There was the odd broken nail, lost shoe and
crooked eyelash backstage but all the girls were incredibly professional
and the standard was extremely high. I only wish at this point that
I could have nine Alternative Miss Limerick’s. The time and effort
that went into costumes, character and performance was amazing,” said
manager Nicole Dunphy. Both
Titney and Miss Lillet will go forward to the Alternative Miss Ireland
next year. The competition is promoted by Yum-Yum, Limerick’s only
strictly gay club. Yum-Yum runs every Saturday night in the Glentworth
Hotel except for the first Saturday of every month when the Gay
Switchboard take over. Also coming up at the club is a Foam Party on
Friday December 22 and a Christmas special with Mrs Claus on December 23. |
