 New Anti Hate Crime Campaign

‘Johnny’ – the Gay Peer Action Group, have announced the launch of a new Crime Campaign.

It was decided at a recent meeting of ‘Johnny’ that it was time, that the ‘Gay’/GBLT (Gay, BI-sexual, Lesbian & Transgender) community did something to counteract the current trend of ‘Hate Crimes’ taking place against ‘Gay’ people in Ireland.

The peer action group had been reviewing the current trend over the last few weeks, but with the subsequent raping of a 17 year old girl in one of Irelands most renowned gay clubs, it was decided that ‘enough was enough’ and that it was time the GBLT community, did something about it!

‘Johnny’ noted from numerous discussions with members of the gay community that the level of policing in or around areas that ‘Gay’ people frequented after 9pm was virtually non existent.

The perceived low levels of policing through out the country as a whole after daytime hours further compounded this.

Why care about increasing the levels of police presence in the Gay community?

Because as a minority group & due to the high levels of ‘racism’ and misunderstanding felt towards the Gay or GBLT community, it is therefore more at risk from criminals intent on committing serious psychological damage and or grievous bodily harm.

‘Johnny’ decided that only through formal action would the GBLT community achieve this objective. ‘Johnny’ aims to mobilise as many, GBLT members, friends, families and colleagues to participate in the campaign.

Initially ‘Johnny’ urges as many people as possible to:

Write, Telephone, Fax, E-mail
Visit their local TD’s and ‘voice’ their desire to see better policing for the GBLT community.
