Baby 2K is held on Monday nights in
Club Mono - Originally held on a Saturday but it has developed a cult
following on Mondays with regular events such as Foam parties, Carnivals
etc.. The dance floor is one of the biggest for a gay club in Dublin.

Baby 2k takes place on Monday nights at club Mono on Wexford street, well within walking distance of the city center. Probably best to walk to it as parking facilities are not that plentiful around unless u arrive after normal pub closing times.. of all the gay venues in Dublin this has the most modern and inviting entrance. As per usual it is manned by two doormen which were cool, up to the point when I had to ask them where the club was. Then the questions started flying!!
Which was really rich cos they saw no problem with me going in a minute earlier. Downstairs opposite the main entrance is a nice long modern bar, so if u arrive early u can have pre club drinks there Usefull if u are meeting up with some friends. The actually gay niteclub is upstairs, so take the stairs immediatly to your left once inside. Must say I agree with Elizers review, one of the bouncers was not at all welcoming with his questions I dont recognise ya blah blah... of course he didnt recognise me cos it was my first time there!! Why else would I be asking him "where was the club" Definetly not hired for his lateral thinking abilities!
Usual cloak room upstairs, one pound per item. Nice modern decor for a change with good high ceilings. On into the club itself, bar on the left hand side and lounge seating around the perimeter and tables and chairs in the center. Being on time as per usual I was able to get a good seat and watch the punters as they arrived. The club didnt really fill up until nearly midnight, in fact it never really filled u at all. It made a comfortable change, but still it was a Monday nite and there is another gay club in operation in temple bar on Mondays too. I know this was a carnaival/circus nite and had a few extra attractions namely a bouncy castle and a few ppl dressed up in clown drag with party hats etc left on the tables for punters.
I dont know if the fact that it was a carnival nite or not but I found the crowd very young and camp. Perhaps it was to do with the location of the place, it not being too far away from student flatland across the canal in Ranelagh but in general it was a younger crowd. I also found the crowd to be quite rough, (contradiction in terms there,,, camp and rough) dont know why. It was the only place I was ever threatened on the dance floor! Like what are u suppose to do? look at the ceiling when u are on the floor?? Maybe thats why Indie music is making a bit of a come back!!:-)) I hope it was an isolated incident and that the two geezers involved were on a trip or summat! I would have to visit again (which I intend doing ) to gauge more accuratly the age profile. There was a scattering of drag queens on a holiday from the their regular haunts as well.
It does indeed have a spaceous dance area and considering, a good area of it was taken up with the bouncy castle, then it was vast indeed. The place is quite cabable of taking a larger crowd than was there the night I visited and it still wouldnt be full. The music was ok, no particular emphis on any type as regards techno, commercial dance etc
Drink prices and service were as norm. Toilets were through the dance floor out towards the back which is not a good layout really as the less contact ppl have with dancers on the floor the better for all concernend.
Oh! one other fact that might be of interest to visitors , it does have good sms reception!! well at least it makes a change from playing snake if u dont cop off!
In general then, this club hasnt any major faults (if u ignore the doormen), better surroundings than most. Would love to see what the foam party is like there??? I believe they hold them through out the year. Keep an eye out for details of those.

It was suggested to me to go to Baby by the people at
Frankies BB, as soon as i got there i was met by 2 bouncers(they were
quite rude) when I asked where should i go to Baby, i'm a big guy and
hispanic, I guess they
thought i was trouble. That still does not explain to me their
rudeness. Why don't they hire gay men in these positions, it seems that
most or all of these guys are stragiht and very insecure of their
sexuality.The music was
fab and the crowd friendly and having a good time. I visit Ireland every
year and hope to be back again next year.
