advertisements in the press announced the arrival of one of the UK's top
clubs to Dublin. The event held in one of Dublin's best venues (the
Red Box) and on one of the best nights of the year ensured that it was
packed to the rafters. What a night!
I arrived around 11.30 which
was late for me as I like to be in at the start to keep my finger on the
pulse as it were. A ten PM start ensured it was well up and running by
the time we arrived. Bit of a que for the cloakroom but otherwise no
probs. Was a bit taken aback at the high entry price of £14
pounds but if I had gone to ticket master and purchased in advance I
could have got it for £12. Weather that included the booking fee or
not, I am not sure.
What u see on entry is
a seething mass of bodies of a wide age range bopping and hand waving to
hard house music surrounded by an excellent sound system and full width
video wall at the stage end of really manic off the wall video!!! :-)
Not having visited the
London venue before I had thought it was going to be gay only but it was
mixed and was advertised heavily in the str8 media - including a
sponsorship with FM104. I don't have a problem with that except it comes
to deciding which cutie is gay and which is not. Have to say there were
really some very nice guys there, like wow! Was talking to an online
friend from the states about the problem with my gaydar when he
suggested his rule... smile at the them and if they smile back, jump on
them!!!
Trouble was there wasn't
much room for jumping on ppl with the crowd, but having said that the
service at the two bars was fairly quick and no long delays
waiting for drinks. prices were O.K. too £2.95 for Heinekin. Water was
disproportionately expensive with lots of guys filling their plastic
bottles at the sinks in the bathroom.
And hard house music it was,
non stop with Irish Dj Mark Kavanagh and two of the Trade Dj's
over from the UK as well pumping out the sound. the stage was opened up
which relieved the pressure on the main floor area. Don't know if I
could have lasted to the end at 3am though, having already come
from another dance club, I left at about one thirty am, so I don't know
what happened after that or if the Trade dancers or police made an
appearance. They were billed as appearing anyway.
House music has a
following by a wide age bracket. Personally I veer more towards techno
but enjoyed it none the less - its a very singular experience, u are
immersed in your own world of beat and vibe but as for the press
advertisement .......
......."TRADE The Only
Place To Get Your Cock Out" I wonder, maybe I should
have waited till the end at 3 am , or gone to the toilets a bit more
:-)
