It
just shows how popular Kylie Minouge really is when two Dublin clubs
devote a whole night each to honour the Australian diva. I was shocked to
hear that due to snow storms during the week, kylie decided to cancel her
March 1st date at Dublin’s RDS.
The
cancellation worked to the George’s favour, ‘Kylie cancelled, we
haven’t’, boasted their advertisements. The club which earlier in the
year hosted a Madonna night, packed with disappointed kylie fans, unhappy
at not getting to see their idol, they had to settle for the next best
thing, a dance night consisting of nothing but Kylie tunes.

The
George had a large screen suspended from the ceiling for the event, which beamed
kylie videos and TV appearances out over the dance floor. The night started with
‘This time I know its for real’, more famous for being the theme tune to
RTE’s fashion show ‘Head to Toe’. The DJ for the night swarmed the kylie
archives, pulling out some long forgotten tunes along with a few remixes, it was
nostalgic to hear some of the older songs, ‘I should be so lucky’, ‘The
locomotion’, etc… then again as steps might say, some of them are better
best forgotten.

The
DJ made a wise choice leaving out the infamous duet with Jason Donovan
‘Especially for you’ – I’m sure even Kylie herself cringes when she
hears that song. On the other hand the stylish duet ‘kids’ with Robbie
Williams, went down very well on the dance floor. Naturally ‘Spinning
Around’ and ‘your disco needs you’ were kept for the end of the night,
‘Spinning Around’ got a remix treatment – not as pleasing on the ears as
the original but the crowd up on stage didn’t seem to mind.
There
were so many kylie t-shirts dressing the venue, TK-Maxx must have had a big
clearout to cash in on the concert. Baby 2k (Club Mono – Monday’s) had a
similar night, which also got featured in the Evening Herald on Tuesday. The
paper ran a full page article on Kylie’s gay status, which at the time I
questioned but I was proved wrong by the full house in the George on Thursday.
