FAQ - Mosquito Contro

"What is MosquitoContro ?"
MosquitoContro is a new product for indoors and outdoors, which is designed to repel the common biting mosquito without using any chemicals.

"What's wrong with just using creams and lotions?"
First, they are not always very effective.  Second, they smell awful.  Third, they are sticky and difficult to apply.  Fourth, they stain clothes. But most important of all, they contain toxic chemicals.  In the USA, there is much research to link the use of toxins used for pest control with childhood cancers.  We are not making any claims about specific products, but we suggest you read the research yourself and make up your own mind.

"How does MosquitoContro work?"
The only mosquito that bites is the pregnant female.  When she is pregnant, she wants to stay away from male mosquitoes.  MosquitoContro emits a sound (barely audible to humans) which replicates the wing speed of the male mosquito.  The female can hear this sound, so she stays away.

"Does this sound work on all mosquitoes?"
No.  It is tuned for the species Culux Pipiens, generally referred to as the common mosquito.  It is also effective against about 70% of known species, and in laboratory tests in the University of Hohenheim (Germany) it was found 100% effective against the common moquito.  However, the males of some species beat their wings at a different speed, so that particular sound will not work against them.

"So how do you deal with the "uncoperative" mosquitoes?"
One of our products (MosquitoContro Plus) has an option to use a different sound.  This is the sound of the dragonfly, which is the natural predator of the mosquito.  This repels species not sensitive to the other sound.

"Does MosquitoContro Plus use batteries?"
Yes. One button cell battery (approx 90 hours life) is included.  Replacements are widely available.  We suggest buying a few spare batteries before taking the product on vacation.
