Company Background Pale Blue Productions has been
staging at least two plays every year since it’s inception in 2001. It’s core
purpose is to stage works by writer/director Garret Baker though last year we
did branch out into adapting “The Grimm Fairy Tales.” It’s main driving force
is an emphasis on character driven texts, on the idea it is sometimes the
quietest conversations, the seemingly slight decisions we make and actions we
take that often make the most dramatic moments and changes in our lives.
Black humour is also one of the key elements of the company’s work (which is
why we were so attracted to the extremely nasty humour of the Grimm
brothers).
Formed by Baker and producer/designer Sheena Malone the company has
worked in most small theatres in Dublin, starting with upstairs in The
International Bar and recently making a regular home of Andrews Lane Studio.
We have worked with a number of talented actors with a particular emphasis on
new or emerging talent and regularly rely on the skills of film and theatre
composer Mark Hendrick. This
summer we will be staging “The Realist”, the premiere of a new play, by
Garret Baker in Andrews Lane Studio for two weeks in June. Biographies: Set Designer/ Co-Producer Sheena Malone is an artist and award
winning set designer. As well as designing sets for every Pale Blue
Production thus far, Sheena has also worked with The Independent Theatre
Workshop, and Spellbound theatre companies. She designed the set for “An Audience
With The King” (Spellbound) for 2003’s Fringe Festival and most recently she
worked on “The Grimm Fairy Tales” and “The Truth Game” in Andrews Lane Studio
in January and August of 2004, respectively. (See
photos, subsequent pages.) Writer/Director/Co-Producer Garret Baker’s 1st Novel “The Runts of the Litter” was published in
2000 by A&A Farmar. His second “Love nor Lack of Love” was published in
2001, and since then he has written and directed several plays. His first
play “Rabbits Have the Right Idea” was staged in the International bar in
September of 2001, and since then he has written and directed three other
original plays, adapted both books for the stage, and most recently adapted
and directed 9 stories for “The Grimm Fairy Tales” in Andrews Lane Studio in
January of this year. Composer Mark Hendrick is a musician and
composer who has worked in television for TnaG and on a number of short
films, including the award winning “Small Talk.” Recently he composed much of
the music for Pale Blue Production’s “The Grimm Fairy Tales.” Further Details on Writing 1 st Novel, The Runts of the Litter (published by
