What is Secondary Glazing ?

Secondary Glazing is a window inside a window. They are used mainly where the windows of a building are protected like in a Historic building, for example The Royal College of Surgeons and Glengora House.

The primary windows on this structure are not allowed to be changed. Secondary Glazing (below left) is used to lower noise levels and bring down the cost of heating a building whilst keeping the appearance of the existing windows intact (Below right).

The following is an example of Secondary Glazing from Gelngora House.

Inside Glengora House.

Outside Glengora House.

Notice you can not see the Secondary Glazing from the outside (Above right). The inside view (Above left) is not upstructed either. This example has a Vertical Slider but a Horizontal Slider is available also. The window can also be flipped around so as to clean the outside of the Secondary Glazing unit.

The Main Benifits of Secondary Glazing are :

  • Noise Reduction.

  • Keeps the appearance of the Building (Historic / Protected Buildings)

  • Saves on your Energy Bill.

  • More Security.

  • Cheaper to upgrading High Rise / Multi-Storey Buildings
  • This is an example of Secondary Glazing showing the inside, outside and windows sill.
