Townleyhall

Also known as littlegrange the passage tomb at Townleyhall is part of the Boyne Valley Complex, as part of that group of tombs this tomb is identified as Site T. Built around 3000 BC the chamber, unlike the cruciform shapes at Newgrange and Knowth, is a rectangle and appears as an extension of the passage, as can be seen in the image below , most of the orthostats that make up the passage are missing but their sockets are shown with concrete markers. From here the great cairns at Newgrange and Dowth can clearly be seen.

Situated: From Dublin take the N2 North, at Slane take a right turn for Drogheda along the N51, about 500 metres after the right turn for Newgrange and just after you cross the border into County Louth there is a small cottage on your right the site is in the field to your left. Access is via a small stile almost hidden in the bushes along the side of the road.

Discovery Map 43: O 024 757. Last visit May 2004.
