Srahwee Wedge Tomb

This well preserved wedge tomb which is honoured as a Holy well by the locals, has a large flat stone covering the chamber. The tomb has double walling and is superbly constructed. This tomb is well worth a visit, but on my visit it was beginning to be overgrown by some brambles , the ground around the tomb was also very boggy hopefully this was due to the recent wet weather

Traces of the cairn can be seen around this megalithic monument. The scenery around this tomb is really amazing and is only spoilt by the recent building of a bungalow close by the tomb. To see wonderful pictures of this tomb taken in the nineteen seventies, visit Anthony Weirs site.

Situated: About 6 miles south of Louisburgh Co Mayo. From Croagh Patrick drive straight through Louisburg, at Killeen crossroads take a left after 200yds the roads bends sharp left about two miles down this road you will come to a fork in the road the wedge tomb is situated between the fork.
