Lateevemore

Templenacloonagh is an early ecclesiastical site located at Lateevemore. Situated in this large enclosure are the remains of a boat shaped oratory, pictured left, Two leacht features, the remains of a church and three cross inscribed pillar stones, two of these pillar stones remain standing. Also inside the enclosure are some childrens graves.

 

Pictured right is the northern pillar stone standing at 1.52 metres high, The West face shown here, is inscribed with four crosses, although they are beginning to fade you can still make out the crosses. The East face is inscribed with a single Latin cross.

Below is the Southern stone standing at 1.58 metres high and inscribed with an unusual triple barred cross the upper bar and shaft has a lozenge where they meet and the shaft has bifurcated terminals. The site has a field boundary running down the centre. The third cross inscribed stone lies on a wall of the church ruin in the next field.

Situated: From Dingle take the R559 North after four kilometres take a left turn sign-posted for Gallarus Oratory keep left at the next fork follow the the road for a kilometre take the next left and park. walk up this road for about 300 metres the site is spread acroos two fields on your left.
