TEXT OF PARTY POLITICAL BROADCAST, October 1999

Hallo. My name is John Goodwillie. I’m the Green Party candidate in the by-election in Dublin South-Central.

Every day we’re hearing more scandals. People who weren't paying their taxes. Banks forgiving debts. Money being spent on shirts and restaurants. Well-paid and clever politicians who have funny gaps in their memory.

And this isn’t all in the past. Many of the same people are still around. And when Ministers accept hospitality at a businessman’s house, a businessman who they will be having official dealings with, the Taoiseach doesn't see anything wrong in it.

You have a chance, by your vote in this by-election, to show that you’re not willing to put up with this. You don’t have to put your trust in these parties.

The Green Party is an alternative. We don’t accept donations from big business or banks. We’re free to speak out against these scandals. We’re free to tackle the real issues that are facing the country: things like traffic and housing, defending Irish neutrality, making sure that food is safe to eat.

That is why I’m asking for your support next Wednesday.
