Dublin Night Sky Observer Advertising Information
Thank you for your interest in advertising on the Dublin Night Sky Observer world wide webpage. This page provides a wide range of information on astronomy and space for amateur astronomers and the general public alike. The web site is run and maintained by Gary Nugent. Traffic to this site is growing as more and more visitors enjoy what the site has to offer. Currently, there are now over 5,500 visitors per month.
Internet Advertising
The popularity of the Internet lends itself to provide a 24
hour seven day a week marketing opportunity.
Taking out an ad is (usually) a process whereby you get to place
a graphical banner display ad which is linked back to your own
web site. The quality of your banner ad graphic, as in print
medium also, plays a big factor in how many people will 'click'
on your ad and visit your web page.
This site, therefore, is simply providing graphical ad
displays, or impressions, to its visitors. Established web sites have varying prices and ad impression
rates. This document explains the Dublin Night Sky Observer banner ad program.
Rotating Banner Sequence
The web site displays a single banner ad at the top of each of the three most visited pages (Home Page, News Page, SkyNotes Page)
on the site, in a rotating sequence with other ads. Your ad, which will appear on each page,
will be selected and displayed in turn.
Each time a visitor comes to one of these pages, a single banner
ad is randomly selected from the pool and displayed at the top of the
page, and then the main material of the page will be displayed.
Ads are displayed for ten seconds before being rotated. A limit of a maximum of eight ads per page will be in force to ensure that all ads will be rotated in a reasonable amount of time.
Advantages to Rotating Ads
1. The web pages load faster and so the visitors enjoy a faster site.
2. Your ad is displayed all by itself, calling more attention to it, not competing with others next to it.
3. You can buy as many rotating ad slots as you want for
your ad. You can purchase as little or as much as your budget
allows. You can increase the number of times your ad comes up
by buying more slots. If there are eight advertisers, buying one
slot, yields one in eight displays Buying two slots, gets you
two out of eight, etc.
4. Many times, search engines will have listings of specific
pages within this web site. When someone links directly to
the News or Skynotes pages, they bypass the home page,
possibly never seeing a home page only ad. This rotating system
ensures that advertising gets displayed to any and all comers,
no matter where they came from.

Ad Rates in Effect Since January 1, 2000
So for your placement order on the web site, basically you
purchase a slot in the rotating ad sequence. You could buy three
slots and get three times the exposure. Multiple month discounts
apply as shown above.
Since a lot of this site's visitors come back every day for
daily updates, they will see your ad many times over the course
of their visit to the site.
Graphics
All graphics must be provided by you. Top of the page banner graphic ads are 468 pixels wide by 60 pixels high. All graphics should be GIF files, and can be animated, but MUST be under 40K in size. Keep in mind, the smaller the file size, the quicker the visitor sees your ad!
Terms
All advertising placements are PREPAID. I reserve the right
to refuse advertising from anyone I feel is inappropriate
for this site. No refunds on any unused advertising time. Your ad will be removed at the end of the period paid for. It is
your responsibility to contact me and/or send payment for any
ongoing advertisement placements or renewals.
You may start your ad anytime during the month and it will run for
one month to the day. If you renew before the end of the period,
your ad will simply stay up for another month.
