DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Belvedere F.C. 2 - 0  Templeogue United

Unbeaten all season, and with three games left to remain so, and secure for Belvedere the Under 14 DDSL Premier League title, relieving St. Kevin's Boys of their crown. Dylan Byrne made a return to the starting line-up, while midfielder Paul Graydon passed a pre-match fitness test on his groin injury and started alongside Matt Doherty.

After less then two minutes Belvo had their first chance. Leigh Swords and Byrne worked a nice quick corner, Swords cross found an unmarked Dean O'Rourke but, the goalkeeper made an excellent save. Four minutes later the same trio combined again, this time Byrne's cross from a Sword's pass was lashed over by O'Rourke. Belvo were showing their intent.

On nine minutes the early pressure paid off for the Champions elect. 'Keeper Craig Sexton's long ball was flicked on by Ross O'Connor, the quick Byrne raced through and put pressure on the goalkeeper, who spilled the ball, and Byrne smashed home from a tight angle to give his side a 1-0 advantage.

Sexton was forced into an save minutes later, while Corcoran flashed a free-kick wide at the other end. Midway through the half O'Rourke put in by his partner O'Connor, again the goalkeeper made a great stop.

Five minutes before the break, Belvo were denied a penalty, after a handball in the box but, Byrne lashed the rebound over. At half-time Belvo were one up, and possibly 35 minutes from a league title??

Three minutes after the restart Corcoran's excellent cross caused problems in the box, the goalkeeper eventually punched clear. Corcoran, Adam O'Brien and Doherty worked a nice interchange of play down the left, the latter dinked the ball over-the-top to O'Rourke but, his shot was cleared off the line.

Fifty-three minutes in, Byrne whipped in another excellent cross, the goalkeeper again did well. O'Connor forced another save from the 'keeper but,  not to worry for O'Connor or his team as he scored a minute later, on 54 minutes. Swords' teasing cross was expertly volleyed into the net from 12 yards, a really great finish.

Johnny McMahon then replaced a tired Paul Graydon. Doherty and O'Brien were then subbed, Matty Callaghan and Keith Buckey took their place. While on 63, Dean Doonan replaced namesake O'Rourke. Swords forced a late save from the 'keeper before Liam O'Dwyer came on for Corcoran.

News reached Fairview Park that Saint Kevin's Boys had been held to a  3-3 by Shelbourne, which meant Belvo were Premier League Champions. With the game on Friday subsequently drawn, this gives the "boys in blue" a rest before travelling to Shanowen Road on bank holiday Monday, to play Saint Kevin's Boys.

Belvo team - Sexton, Swords, Corcoran ( O'Dwyer, 68), Joyce (c), Roche, Byrne, Doherty ( Callaghan, 60), Graydon ( McMahon, 54), O'Brien ( Buckley, 60), O'Rourke ( Doonan, 63), O'Connor.

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Home Farm F.C.  0 - 2  Belvedere F.C.

A surprisingly good surface welcomed Belvedere to Albert College on Wednesday night, as Home Farm hosted the title chasing "boys in blue" in an evening kick off. Midfielder Paul Graydon, who injured his groin in the win over Confey at the weekend didn't make the game, so under 13 player Neil Byrne came in at the back, meaning a more advanced role for skipper Danny Joyce.

After only two minutes, Belvo created their first chance, left-back Anto Corcoran's speculative effort from just inside the Home Farm half had to be tipped over the crossbar by the goalkeeper. The opening exchanges were all Belvo as they moved the ball around the pitch nicely, but without creating any real chances.

Just before the 20 minute mark, Corcoran and Adam O'Brien worked a nice quick corner, which led to the latter's cheeky chip being headed off the line and away. Less then a minute later, Belvo were denied what looked like a stone-wall penalty, as Matt Doherty's shot was clearly blocked with a defender's arm, but the ref waved play on.

Doherty had another effort on 25, Corcoran's corner fell to him on the edge of the box but, he shot wide. Five minutes before half-time, Belvo took a deserved lead. Corcoran's cross eventually found its way to O'Connor, who smashed home from close range against his old club. Doherty forced another save from the 'keeper on 31.

Just before the break, Belvo got that the all important second goal and it was defender Leigh Swords who obliged. His shot from the corner of the box flew in at the far post, after a clever dummy from O'Connor. And so at half time it was 2-0 to the visitors.

Five minutes after the restart, Farm had their only chance of the game so far but, the striker shot over. Craig Sexton made a good save moments later but he was untroubled for the rest for the game. Joyce shot high and wide on 45.

The rest of the second period passed off without incident. Corcoran was replaced by Grant while O'Rourke was rested for the last few minutes as well, as McMahon came on for him. With main rivals St. Kevin's beaten 1-0 by Stella Maris at the same venue, Belvo's title hopes are now in their own hands.

Man of the match was Neil Byrne at the back, while Mark Roche and Dean O'Rourke also had good games.

Belvo team - Sexton, Swords, Corcoran ( Grant, 61), Doherty, N Byrne, Buckley, Joyce (c), Roche, O'Brien, O'Rourke ( McMahon, 55), O'Connor

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Belvedere F.C.  2 - 0  Confey F.C.

The "boys in blue" faced one of their five "cup finals" on Sunday morning in "Fortress Fairview". Neck and neck with St. Kevin's in the race for the league title, Belvo needed a win to keep their push alive. Danny Joyce returned from injury at the back, while the two pre-match fitness doubts Matty Doherty and Paul Graydon started in the centre of midfield.

Confey gave their hosts a scare after only two minutes, a corner whipped in at pace was hit over the crossbar by an attackers knee. Chances were few and far between in the opening minutes, Ross O'Connor and Adam O'Brien both having attempts at goal blocked.

Dean O'Rourke cracked an excellent shot towards goal just after the quarter hour, he sliced across the ball, but the goalkeeper saved easily. Six minutes later O'Rourke and O'Connor combined well, with the latter having another shot blocked.

Full-back Leigh Swords, who captained Ireland over the weekend had a great run and cross, nine minutes before half time, but nobody had gambled to get to the front post for a tap-in and the ball flew across the box and out.

At half time, the game was in the balance at nil nil, Belvo knew more chances had to come in the second period. On 36, O'Brien and O'Rourke combined to set up first O'Connor, then Swords, both ultimately coming to nothing. Two minutes later Swords saw his excellent free-kick from 30 yards cannon off the crossbar and away, with the 'keeper helpless.

After 40 minutes Belvo took the lead, O'Rourke passed to Swords, who had an excellent game, his cross found its way into the path of O'Connor by means of a deflection, and he finished well from 12 yards to put his side a goal ahead.

O'Rourke had a great little chipped effort go inches wide of the far post minutes later. On 50 Joyce also hit the crossbar from distance. Belvo then made a change, Graydon was replaced by Eric Grant. On 57 Confey had a half chance but in the end it didn't trouble Craig Sexton in the Belvo goal.

On 60 Swords and Keith Buckley combined to set up O'Rourke to score from 2 yards, another assist from Swords. Doherty was then replaced by Johnny McMahon. Sexton made a great catch from a cross to relieve the late pressure, while Buckley shot over a minute later.

Three more points for Belvo, a clean sheet and both strikers scoring, not a bad day at the office, hopefully more wins will come to help secure the league title.

Belvo team - Sexton, Swords, Corcoran, Joyce (c), Roche, Buckley, Doherty ( McMahon, 60), Graydon ( Grant, 51), O'Brien, O'Connor, O'Rourke.

DDSL Under 14 Thunder Cup (1/4 Finals)

Stella Maris  2 - 2  Belvedere F.C.

( Belvedere win 4 - 2 on penalties A.E.T. )

Notified late on Friday night about the change of venue to Richmond Road, Belvedere arrived to a small pitch, with overgrown grass on Saturday afternoon to take on rivals Stella Maris for a place in the semi-finals of the under 14 Thunder Cup.

Belvo's preparation was not helped by the fact they were not allowed to warm up on the grass as a seven a side game was taking place in one half of the pitch, and the astro-turf was "runners" only. The visitors were without Sean Prizeman, Sean Skelly and Graham Parkinson through injury, while Adam O'Brien was away. So Ross O'Connor and Luke Dillon came into the team.

The visitors started the game with an early chance, Paul Graydon won the ball in mid-field, Johnny McMahon played in O'Connor, but his shot was easily saved. Two minutes in Stella took a shock lead. A corner into the box caused confusion, and after a goalmouth scramble, the ball found the back of the net.

On 18 minutes Captain Danny Joyce limped off injured with a groin strain, and Keith Buckley replaced him. Belvo goalkeeper Craig Sexton was forced into a save on the 20 minute mark, he did well to claw away a deflected shot. Anto Corcoran whipped in a good ball minutes later, the defender headed towards his own goal, the 'keeper did well to keep it out.

On 33 minutes Leigh Swords almost scored the goal of the season. The ball broke to him just inside the Stella half, he caught it sweetly on the volley, only for it to crash off the crossbar and away. Dean O'Rourke had a great chance before the break but he failed to convert. At half time, Stella were battling well and were ahead. Belvo knew they could win the game once they played football in the second half.

Belvo had to make a change as Luke Dillon was injured and Eric Grant came on for him. Belvo equalised in the 51st minute and it was an excellent goal involving Swords, McMahon and Buckley.  O'Connor expertly dispatched into the bottom corner from 12 yards after a nice dummy by his strike partner McMahon.

Grant shot wide soon afterwards while the Stella number 8 forced a save from Sexton on 60. O'Rourke had a shot saved towards the end. Extra time loomed as the teams could not be separated over the 70 minutes. Belvo knew their greater fitness would mean chances would come their way.

O'Connor forced a save from the goalkeeper four minutes into the extra time. A minute later O'Rourke smashed over from the corner of the six yards box. Stella took the lead again in the second half of extra time, a counter attack from Stella got their striker in and he dinked over the advancing 'keeper to send his team and their supporters into wild celebrations.

Thankfully for Belvo, those celebrations were extremely short-lived as Paul Graydon got a goal similar to David Beckham's goal against Wimbledon straight from the restart. From the tip-off Graydon shot, and it flew over the goalkeeper's head and into the net, this time sending his own team into celebrations, which were not to be prematurely cut short.

So the dreaded penalty shoot-out it was, Belvo skipper Sexton won the toss and opted to go first. Graydon didn't disappoint from 12 yards as he slotted home. Stella then scored. Man of the match Doherty stepped up and smashed home to make it 2-1. Sexton made an excellent save with his legs from Stella's second peno.

O'Rourke made up for his earlier misses by cooly scoring to make it 3-1 and if Stella missed Belvo were through. They scored and up stepped Swords, who also had a good game, to make it 4-2. Sexton did his best to put of Stella's next taker off and it must have worked as he shot wide and Belvo, after a very difficult game were through to play Shelbourne in the semi-final in Fairview Park on Wednesday night.

Belvo team - Sexton, Swords, Corcoran ( Reilly, 83), Joyce ( Buckley, 18), Roche, Dillon ( Grant, 50), Doherty, Graydon, O'Rourke, McMahon, O'Connor

DDSL Under 14 Thunder Cup (1/4 Finals)

Cherry Orchard  0 - 1  Belvedere F.C.

Following an excellent performance to draw 0-0 with Cherry Orchard away earlier in the season, Belvedere arrived to The Lawn on Wednesday evening hopeful of a place in the last four of the league cup.

One enforced change from the weekend win over Confey, saw Dean O'Rourke replace the ill Adam O'Brien on the left side of midfield. The very long grass certainly would not suit Belvo's style of play.

After less then a minute Belvo goalkeeper Craig Sexton was forced to make an excellent save with his feet, to deny Orchard the dream start. Captain Danny Joyce, who was brilliant in the air all day was lucky to escape relatively unscathed after a serious clash of heads with an opposition player.

After four minutes, Belvo took the lead and an excellently worked goal it was. Tricky winger Keith Buckley and powerful full-back Leigh Swords took a quick short corner, Swords cross found an unmarked Sean Prizeman twelve yards out, and he wonderfully volleyed home into the far corner to put his side ahead.

On 16 minutes Sexton was forced into a relatively easy save from a header following a corner. Nine minutes later, "Seco" was forced into another save, this time to deny the striker after a nice move down Belvo's left, where Orchard had joy throughout the first half, luckily the rebound was smashed wide from six yards, with the goal gaping.

Belvedere continued to show great grit and determination and at half-time, having battled very well and scored a great goal, were deservedly ahead, but with a tough 35 minutes ahead.

Two minutes after the break, Belvo had a major let-off. A corner whipped in was met on the volley, but it crashed off the frame of the goal, and the rebound flew into the building site behind. On 50 minutes, McMahon shot just wide, and then a minute later Prizeman shot over. Shortly afterwards O'Rourke was replaced by Ross O'Connor.

However, it was to be only a six minute appearance for O'Connor as he suffered a bad facial injury after a trailing arm caught him, and the pacey Eric Grant replaced him. Prizeman had to limp off injured, and was replaced by Matthew Callaghan.

Minutes from time Orchard had their last chance, but it was smashed wide. Matty Doherty was again excellent for Belvo in midfield alongside Paul Graydon, while Johnny McMahon also had a very good game up front. Roche and Joyce did well at the back, continuing their good defensive form.

Another win for Belvo, who remain unbeaten in eight games, and another clean sheet. Five league games to secure the title and a semi final to look forward too, an interesting few weeks lie ahead.

Belvo team - Sexton, Swords, Corcoran, Joyce (c), Roche, Buckley, Graydon, Doherty, O'Rourke ( O'Connor, 52) (Grant, 58), McMahon, Prizeman (Callaghan, 62).

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Confey F.C.  0 - 2  Belvedere F.C.

St. Catherine's Park was the venue for Belvedere's second game in four days, as they travelled to play Confey, hopeful of another three points in their push for the league title. Belvo made two changes from the win over Home Farm on Saturday, Sean Prizeman and Johnny McMahon came in up-front for RossO'Connor and Dean O'Rourke, who were rested.

A very difficult opening period for Belvo, played against a strong wind and up a slight hill, as Confey with their direct approach looked dangerous with a couple of early corners. Belvo however, refused to be out-muscled and they defended well to deny their hosts.

Confey had another chance on the quarter hour, a long, angled ball into the box was met by a Confey player eight yards out, but he headed over. Keith Buckley chased down a pass-back and almost created a chance for Belvo.

He put the goalkeeper under pressure but, he eventually cleared the ball out for a corner. Danny Joyce floated a ball to the back-post where the goalkeeper came to claim just before Matt Doherty, who had been in excellent form lately, got there.

Prizeman forced a very good save from the 'keeper on 22 minutes. His header was going towards goal, until the goalkeeper leapt through the air to catch well. Three minutes later Belvo took the lead. Anto Corcoran's excellent cross was met by Doherty, the ball rebounded into Joyce's path and he smashed home into the top corner from 16 yards.

At half time, Belvo led a very scrappy game by one goal to nil and, with the wind at their backs for the second period, they were hoping to close out the game as early as they could. Mahon shot wide just after the break, after a nice knockdown by Doherty.

Craig Sexton, Belvedere’s 'keeper did very well to come and claim a few difficult corners, while at the other end Corcoran had a powerful indirect free-kick blocked by the wall. Belvo made a change after 50 minutes, the tired Adam O'Brien was replaced by O'Rourke on the left side of midfield.

Seven minutes later Buckley limped off with a sore calf, Eric Grant came on for him. Nine minutes from time Belvo got an excellent second goal. Prizeman's mazy run, reminiscent on Lionel Messi's goal for Barcelona during the week, ended with a nice one-two with Grant and a great left-footed finish by the man called Milky from 16 yards.

Soon afterwards the referee blew the final whistle. Another clean sheet, two more goals, and obviously three more precious points towards the title. Five crucial  games left... this is what it is all about.

Belvo team - Sexton, Swords, Corcoran, Joyce (c), Roche, Buckley ( Grant, 62), Graydon, Doherty, O'Brien ( O'Rourke, 50), McMahon ( O'Connor, 63) Prizeman.

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Belvedere F.C.  4 - 1  Home Farm

Another vital three points were at stake at a sunny Fairview Park on Wednesday evening as Belvedere continued their quest for the league title. With striker Graham Parkinson still out, Sean Skelly also missed the game against his former club with a broken ankle.

Belvo started the game well, a nice passing move down the right involving Mark Roche, Matt Doherty and Leigh Swords led to a half-chance for O'Connor, but his shot was deflected wide. Belvo goalkeeper Craig Sexton was forced to save well on ten minutes after an unmarked Home Farm player shot from 12 yards.

The bumpy pitch was not helping the home side but Belvo were by far the better side in the opening period and took the lead in the 21st minute. Captain Danny Joyce played a ball forward which the defenders left to each other and Buckley nipped in to finish well from 12 yards.

Four minutes later Farm hit back against the run of play. Belvo gave away possession on the edge of their own box and the Home Farm player smashed home the equaliser from 25yards. O'Connor had a shot saved on 27 minutes and 6 minutes later he almost scored. Sword's shot was deflected towards goal by O'Connor only for it to hit the post, but nobody was in for the rebound.

The second half began just like the first, with the Farm 'keeper forced into a save. Buckley or "Bucko" turned well inside and shot left-footed, but straight at the goalkeeper.  On 47 minutes, Belvo regained the lead. Sword's ball over-the-top was latched onto by Paul Grayson, who got to it just before the 'keeper to head into an empty net from 18 yards.

Man of the Match Doherty was excellent in midfield again, while Anto Corcoran was solid as ever at left-back. However he limped off injured soon afterwards and was replaced by Johnny McMahon.

With 57 minutes on the clock disaster almost struck for Belvo. Swords sold 'keeper "Seco" short with a back pass, only for the visiting striker to hit the outside of the near post and wide. With 10 minutes remaining Sean Prizeman replaced O'Connor.

A minute later Doherty scored the goal of the game. Joyce floated in another lovely ball to the back post, which Doherty met on the volley and swept into the far corner from 16 yards. A great goal, after a great cross. Doherty almost scored again soon afterwards but the goalkeeper made a good save.

Eric Grant, who replaced the injured Buckley,  got a great goal of his own just before the end. He dispossesed the defender before racing through to finish coolly into the bottom corner.

Six games left in the league, three at home and three away, Belvo's title destiny is in their own hands. Away to Confey F.C. on Saturday and Templeogue United at home next Wednesday, Belvo will be hoping for maximum points before they travel to play St. Kevin's in what could be a league decider.

Belvo team - Sexton, Swords, Corcoran ( McMahon, 50), Joyce (c), Roche, Buckley ( Grant 65), Graydon, Doherty, O'Brien, O'Rourke, O'Connor ( Prizeman, 60)

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Belvedere F.C.  3 - 0  Ballyfermot United

Three more points on the road to the league title were at stake for Belvedere as they welcomed Ballyfermot United to a sun-kissed Fairview Park on Tuesday night. After beating the same team three weeks earlier by one goal to nil, Belvo knew they would have to work hard for the victory.

Belvo started the game the better of the two sides and could have been ahead after just three minutes. Ross O'Connor and Paul Graydon both had shots saved in quick sucession, the tricky Adam O'Brien's goal-bound header was ruled out for offside from the rebound.

Left back Anto Corcoran fizzed a low shot wide of the far post on eight minutes. Belvo's defence had not yet been tested. The powerful Leigh Swords burst through four minutes later, and his right-footed shot was deflected wide by O'Connor, when it would have at least tested the goalkeeper.

Sean Prizeman, or "Milky" as he is better known showed his skill nine minutes before half time. He robbed the centre-half and chipped the goalkeeper from the edge of the box, only for the desperate 'keeper to scramble back and make a great save.

Two minutes before the break, Belvo produced their best move of the game so far. Milky and O'Connor combined to set up O'Brien, and his inviting cross to the back post was smashed wide by Sean Skelly, under pressure and from a tight angle. At the break despite being well on top, Belvo had to be happy with 0-0.

Two minutes after the restart Graydon had a header saved, but the goal was coming for "the boys in blue". Five minutes later that goal duly arrived. Belvo 'keeper Craig Sexton, who has conceded only two league goals all season, found Corcoran, and  his long pass found O'Connor, who had made a great run and he lobbed the advancing 'keeper to give his side a deserved lead.

On 53 minutes, Prizeman, who was in danger of getting a second yellow card, was replaced by Luke Dillon.  There was no storm in "Fortress Fairview" on Tuesday night, but after the next two minutes, the net looked like it had be struck by lightening.

Paul "thunderbolt" Graydon smashed home what could be the goal of the season from 25 yards, leaving the helpless goalkeeper looking towards the sky. Mark Roche, who did well sitting in front of the back four was replaced by Dean O'Rourke.

On 58, Corcoran, a contender from man of the match, curled in an inviting ball, O'Connor glanced his header just wide of the far post. Seven minutes later, with the win in the bag, Belvo made a triple change.

Keith Buckley replaced O'Brien, Johnny McMahon came on up front for O'Connor and Eric Grant took the place of Swords. Two minutes from time "super-sub" O'Rourke scored a brilliant third goal to seal the result. His control and quick feet created some space some 16 yards out, and he found the top corner with ease to made it 3-0, and improve his sides goal difference even more.

Although not troubled at all at the back Matt Doherty at centre-back had another excellent game, and was Belvo's best player alongside Captain Danny Joyce. Sexton, as ever was calm and assured, and did well with the limited amount of work he had to do.

O'Brien caused the right-back trouble all evening, while Skelly, Roche and Graydon dominated the middle of the park. O'Connor led the line well and all the substitutes did well  proving it really is a squad game.

As said at the start, three more points, three more goals, another shut-out at the back, seven league games remaining and Belvo's destiny is in their own hands. Off to Sunderland for two games over the Easter holiday, a welcome break before Belvo return to league and cup action in two weeks.

Belvo team - Sexton, Swords (Grant, 65) , Corcoran, Joyce (c), Doherty, Prizeman (Dillon, 53), O'Brien ( Buckley, 65), Roche ( O'Rourke, 55), Graydon, Skelly, O'Connor (McMahon, 65)

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Stella Maris  0 - 2  Belvedere F.C.

Belvedere, currently in second place in the Under 14 premier league, one point behind the leaders with a game in hand, arrived to Richmond Road on bank-holiday Monday, hopeful of a repeat of the 2-0 win in the home fixture earlier in the season.

Belvo made three changes from last weekends 1-0 win in Ballyfermot, Adam O'Brien came in for Dean O'Rourke on the left side of midfield, Mark Roche returned at centre-back in place of Johnny McMahon and Keith Buckley came in for the suspended Sean Skelly.

On a tight and bumpy pitch Belvo almost took the lead after less then a minute. Sean Prizeman and strike-partner Ross O'Connor both won good tackles in the opposition third, leading to Prizeman having his shot easily saved. That was the only piece of goal-mouth action for much of the first half.

Belvo struggled to keep the ball at times, and preferred to try the difficult pass rather then the easier one. Goalkeeper Craig Sexton was called into action on a couple of occasions to catch balls into the box, but other than that neither side had anything in the final third.

Eight minutes before half time, Belvedere took the lead. Leigh Swords was fouled on the right-wing, Captain Danny Joyce took the free-kick. His long, floated ball into the box was headed over his own goalkeeper and into the net by a Stella defender.

An un-eventful first 25 minutes was quickly put to the back of Belvo's mind as they doubled their lead on thirty-two minutes. Keith Buckley's shot towards goal was deflected into the path of Adam O'Brien, who did well to adjust his feet and volley in from four yards out. A minute later Joyce shot wide from outside the box.

On 34 minutes Sexton was called to make his first meaningful save of the game, and what a good, yet painful one it was. He did well to dive across goal and save a header flying towards the top corner, only for him to collide head-first with the goal post on his landing. Luckily after some treatment he was fine and Belvo, despite not playing too well, were two ahead at the half time break.

Sexton was forced into action three minutes after half time, he tipped a volley onto the crossbar and easily collected the rebound. Prizeman thrashed a shot wide on 34. In the 55th minute, Belvo made a double change. O'Rourke and McMahon replaced O'Connor and Buckley. Five minutes later Luke Dillon came on for Prizeman.

On 62 minutes Stella had a half chance, but their number 10 shot wide from 12 yards, under no pressure. Belvo held out for the remaining eight minutes and will be very pleased to have collected the three points to put even more pressure on St. Kevin's Boys.

Defender Matt Doherty was man of the match. He put in a commanding performance at centre-back, despite taking a blow to the jaw early on. Goalkeeper Craig Sexton who kept a clean sheet was a close second to being the best player on the pitch.

Two under par performances, but two clean sheets and six points, as they say, champions always win when the don't play well, that's what Belvo have done. With eight league games remaining, Belvo will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run as they challenge for the league and league cup titles.

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Ballyfermot United  0 - 1  Belvedere F.C.

Having drawn 0 - 0 with Cherry Orchard at the Lawn two weeks ago with a very good performance Belvedere returned on Saturday to play Ballyfermot United, a team without a league win this season, so Belvo were hoping for three points in their pouch for the league title.

Belvo started the better of the two sides, Captain Danny Joyce played in Sean Prizeman, he was fouled on the edge of the box by the advancing goalkeeper. Sean Skelly and an opposition player were yellow carded after the foul for an off the ball incident. The resulting free-kick from Joyce didn't trouble to goal.

On 14 minutes, Belvo worked a nice throw-in down the left. Anto Corcoran and Dean O'Rourke combined to set up Ross O'Connor, he passed to Prizeman who shot wide. Twelve minutes later the referee awarded the home side a free kick, Craig Sexton did well to tip the powerful drive over the crossbar.

It was a quite uneventful first half, with Ballyformot battling well and making things difficult for the more talented opposition. However, Belvo were playing far from their best and not doing what they have done all season, passing and moving the ball.. At the half time whistle it remained scoreless..

A minute after the restart, Corcoran's corner swirled into the box in the powerful wind, and O'Rourke headed wide from eight yards. In the 41st minute Leigh Swords had a shot from outside the area, Prizeman tried to deflect the ball into the net but the 'keeper made one of a number of good saves.

Sixty seconds later Swords pass found O'Connor, he went one-on-one but his low shot agoniisingly hit the foot of the post and out. On 46 minutes the Ballyfermot midfield player was sent off for a foul on Skelly in midfield.

O'Connor had another two chances in two minutes soon afterwards. The goalkeeper made a very good save, the second effort went wide. In the 50th minute Joyce's shot from 25 yards was easily saved. Skelly had a low shot saved himself a minute later.

Fifteen minutes from time O'Rourke had a very good chance to put his side ahead, but he lashed over from six yards, after a scramble in the box. Joyce played in Adam O'Brien a few minutes later but his shot was brilliantly kept out.

Keith Buckley, who had replaced Prizeman seven minutes earlier was involved in some good play with Swords and O'Connor, resulting in O'Rouke's powerful long-range shot going just over.

Finally going into added time Belvo got the goal they so desperately wanted. As they say a goal is a goal, as O'Connor smashed home from six yards after a goal-mouth scramble. Another sour point was Skelly's red card from the resulting tip-off. He was given a second yellow card for not being outside the circle when the tip was taking place.

Belvo, having played nowhere near their best kept on going until the end, and got their goal and the three points. They are now second in the table, one point behind leaders St. Kevin's with a game in hand. Halfway through the season, and still unbeaten in the league, Belvo will hope to continue their good form over the next two months.

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Belvedere F.C.  3 - 1  Shelbourne F.C.

Belvedere got over the hang-over of an embarrassing defeat in the FAI Cup at the hands of Templeogue last weekend with a good 3-1 win over Dublin rivals Shelbourne at Fairview Park on Saturday.

In the process chalking up their sixth league win of the season, and keeping up an unbeaten league record. Belvo named the same starting line-up as last weekend, but with three positional changes.

Right-back Paul Graydon played in central midfield, while Sean Skelly play just behind striker Graham Parkinson. Sean Prizeman reverted to right-midfield.

The first chance of the game came after five minutes and it was the home side who created it. Full-back Leigh Swords curled in a lovely cross, which Shelbourne failed to clear.

The ball eventually found its way to Dean O'Rourke at the corner of the six-yard box, but his header went inches wide of the far post. The next ten minutes were quite evenly matched with both sides failing to create any real opportunities.

On 15 minutes Belvedere Mark Roche was yellow carded for a foul while a minute later Belvo were denied a definite penalty. Graham Parkinson nipped in to rob the ball on the back line, and the defender clipped his heels, but not a penalty said the referee.

Belvo got their just rewards for some good play with the first goal after 17 minutes. Skelly played a great pass to Prizeman, he used his pace and power to break into the box before providing a perfect cross for Parkinson to head home from four yards out.

Belvo doubled their lead two minutes later and it was a contender for goal of the season and probably the longest range goal in Fairview Park's history. It was Belvo captain Danny Joyce, who as ever put in a solid performance at the back who got it.

He received a pass five yards inside his own half, he flicked the ball up and volleyed it high towards goal, and in it went, over the 'keeper's head, 2-0.

Shelbourne gave themselves a lifeline in the 22nd minute, but not without some help from the referee. The away side clearly had three players in an offside position inside the six-yard box but the ref somehow missed it, the striker smashed home and it was 2-1.

Roche made a great saving tackle soon afterwards. He rushed back to stop Shels scoring. Then Belvo almost scored again, Anto Corcoran and Dean O'Roukre linked up well down the left, with the latter swinging in a brilliant cross, Skelly's header was well saved.

At half-time, although not playing that well, and in cold and windy conditions, Belvo were 2-1 ahead. Six minutes after half time it should have been 2-2. Shelbourne scored from a header, but the referee spotted a non-existent foul on a Belvo defender. Of course, Belvo were not complaining.

On 47 minutes in was 3-1 and probably game over. Skelly and Prizeman were again the architects, Skelly's pass found Prizeman, his cross found Parkinson to tap-in from two yards. Skelly shot wide ten minutes later.

Belvo then made two changes, Adam O'Brien replaced the impressive O'Rourke while Johnny McMahon then came to replace the goal-scorer Parkinson.

Skelly was again denied a penalty towards the end, and he was booked for his protests. He was then replaced by Luke Dillon. A mention for Matt Doherty and Paul Graydon both put in solid performances in midfield.

Four minutes later the final whistle was blown. Six wins and a draw from their seven league games so far, things are looking good for Belvo and if they continue their good form, they will be challenging St. Kevins for the title right until the end.

Belvo team - Sexton, Swords, Corcoran, Roche, Joyce (c), Prizeman, O'Rourke ( O'Brien, 57), Graydon, Doherty, Skelly ( Dillon, 65), Parkinson (McMahon, 57).

SFAI Under 14 Goodson Cup

Templeogue United  2 - 1  Belvedere F.C.

Bitterly disappointing are the only two words that come to mind when we look back on Belvedere's early exit from the all-Ireland cup at Tymon Park on Saturday.

Belvo welcomed Leigh Swords back to the starting line-up, he replaced Ross O'Connor while Dean O'Rourke came onto the left side of midfield, replacing the absent Adam O'Brien.

On the worst pitch in Tymon Park, small, cramped and muddy, and with the wind blowing ferociously throughout the game, the conditions favoured the home side. Templeogue took the lead after only three minutes, a corner whipped into the box was turned in by Belvo striker Graham Parkinson, after a scramble in the box.

Belvo created their first opportunity a minute later. Anto Corcoran and Sean Skelly worked a nice quick corner, which led to Corcoran shooting from the edge of the box, the goalkeeper made an easy save.

On 14 minutes Belvedere 'keeper Craig Sexton was forced to make his first save of the game, stopping a Templeogue midfielder's shot from distance. A minute later Belvo got the equaliser.

And what a great team goal it was Skelly played a lovely ball over-the-top for Swords to sprint onto, his cross found Parkinson who layed off to Matt Doherty and he smashed home from 12 yards to make it 1-1.

They the say the worst time to concede is just after you have scored, and that was nearly the case just sixty seconds later. Templeogue curled in a corner, and the centre-half headed wide, unmarked form four yards when he should have scored.

On 22 and 23 minutes Belvo could easily have conceded two more goals. Sexton had to be alert to save from a quick shot, while Paul Graydon cleared an effort off the line a minute later, there was more then a hint of handball by the Belvo defender on that occasion.

Despite playing against a strong wind for the first half, Belvo were doing quite well, Sean Prizeman shot over from eight yards, while on 27 minutes Swords' cheeky chip was briliantly tipped over the crossbar by the goalkeeper.

The referee blew the whistle for half time a minute early, both teams were still in with a shout. it was one all. Just after the break Belvo began to take control, Prizeman's skill and pace got him a chance just after the break, put his shot was blocked.

In the 42nd minute Belvo were awarded a free kick just outside the box, but Skelly's shot was blocked by the wall. Five minutes later Skelly was involved in another bright piece of play, his cross-field run created space but he shot just over.

In the 53rd minute Templeogue took the lead. It was poor Belvo defending that let-in the striker, and he made no mistake from six yards. Skelly had another free-kick, three minute later, which unluckily clipped the top of the crossbar and went over.

Parkinson missed a great opportunity to atone for his earlier og, he headed wide from inside the six yard box, after a great cross. It turned into a siege on the home team's goal for the last eight minutes, Prizeman shot over, Doherty had his shot saved while Skelly's brilliant  right-footed shot smashed off the post and out.

Belvo thought they had equalised when Skelly had the ball in the net, a minute from time, but the referee curiously blew for offside and then played just 21 seconds added time at the end of the game.

So the final whistle blew, a combination of a very poor pitch, terrible weather conditions, poor refereeing and a bad Belvo performance mean the "the boys in blue" are out of the all Ireland, at a very early stage.

They will now turn their attention to continuing their impressive unbeaten league record and mounting a challenge for the league cup.

Belvo team - Sexton, Graydon, Joyce (c), Roche, Corcoran, Swords, Skelly, Doherty, O'Rourke, Parkinson, Prizeman.

DDSL Under 14 Thunder Cup

Belvedere F.C.  6 - 1  Greystones United

Five wins and a draw from their first six league games, Belvedere turned their attention to the league cup and eventually played the game against
Greystones, at the third attempt.

With defender Leigh Swords still out with injured ribs and midfielder Keith Buckley on crutches after he kicked a footpath, Belvo made two changes to the line-up for the game.

Striker Graham Parkinson came in to replace Dean O'Rourke, having missed last weekends game through injury, while at the back Anto Corcoran returned to left-back, pushing the dependable Mark Roche to centre-back and Johnny McMahon to the bench.

On the surprisingly flat pitch at Fairview Belvo started as they were to continue, Adam O'Brien had his shot cleared off the line after less then a minute. A few minutes later Sean Skelly had an effort, after two crackers in the last two weeks, this time unfortunately his shot was headed away.

In the seventh minute Belvo took the lead and it was a great team goal. Goalkeeper Craig Sexton threw a good ball out to Paul Graydon, he found Sean Prizeman on the right wing.

He was fouled, captain Danny Joyce took a quick free to the feet of Ross O'Connor. O'Connor's pass found Parkinson and the talented forward curled a beautiful shot into the top corner of the net from 20 yards out.

Just three minutes later Greystones nearly got a equaliser. Sexton's attempted pass was cut out but he did well to race back to his line and save the shot, sparing his blushes.

On 16 minutes Belvo doubled their lead. Skelly and Corcoran worked a nice short corner, the latter received the ball on the edge of the box and put a high, right-footed cross/shot into the box. It somehow found its way into the roof of the net and it was 2-0.

Three minutes later it was three. Parkinson's shot was saved and the ball made its way out to the impressive Matt Doherty, he took a touch and smashed a right-footed low shot into the bottom corner.

Although not having to get out of third gear, Belvo were well on top in the game, Prizeman had a shot well saved midway through the half. Just a minute later it was 4-0 and Greystones were looking for the exit doors.

Parkinson's nice turn and pass found O'Connor, repaying the favour for his goal, O'Connor found the far corner of the net with ease, scoring his third goal of the season.

Parkinson showed his array of tricks towards the end of the half, his shot was saved but he then proceeded to show the opposition some juggling tricks. In "Ronaldinho style" he soloed the ball around the six yard box before having his shot blocked.

Skelly got in on the act just before half time. Another well worked short corner let to Skelly breaking into the box and smashing a powerful shot into the net from 15 yards.

Greystones then got a goal back, totally against the run of play. Joyce, excellent throughout, gave the ball away and the striker broke through. Sexton saved the first shot but was helpless for the rebound, which was tapped in from close range.

At half time with the game safely in the bag, Belvo made five changes. The injured Roche and man of the match Parkinson came off for McMahon and Dean O'Rourke. Seco took a break from goal, Dean O'Reilly replaced him, while Luke Dillon and Eric Grant came on for Skelly and Prizeman.

Just after the break O'Connor and O'Rourke both came close. The former volleying wide, the latter having his shot saved.Ten minutes from time, and after Doherty coming off with a sore thigh, Belvo completed the rout.

Adam O'Brien finished well from close range after great play by O'Rourke. So 6-1 the final score, Belvo were in truth never really tested but won the game all the same.

They will be disappointed to have conceded a goal but with only one goal against all season that wont worry them too much. Roll on Cherry Orchard in the next round.

Belvo team - Sexton ( O'Reilly, 35), Graydon, Corcoran, Joyce (c), Roche (McMahon, 35), Prizeman ( Dillon, 35), Doherty, Skelly ( Grant, 35), O'Brien,
O'Connor, Parkinson ( O'Rourke, 35)

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Belvedere F.C.  4 - 0  W.F.T.A.

With four wins and a draw from their first five league games, Belvedere were looking to continue this form and their unbeaten run past the first third of the league season. Defender Leigh Swords was out with badly bruised ribs and a broken wrist, Anto Corcoran was out with a leg injury while Graham Parkinson pulled out in the warm up with a sore heel. Adam O'Brien, Johnny McMahon and new signing Paul Graydon came into the team.

On the slick surface at Fairview on Saturday Belvo made the better start over the team they had beaten 4-0 in the first game of the season, Sean Prizeman or "Milky" curled in a nice cross in the fourth minute, but Adam O'Brien was late to react at the back-post. The visitors from Finglas had the chance to take the lead in the tenth minute but Mark Roche made a great saving tackle in the box.

Less then 60 seconds later Belvo took the lead, man of the match Matt Doherty clipped a lovely ball over the defence and striker Dean O'Rourke ran through to lop the advancing goalkeeper and make it 1-0. O'Rourke had another chance four minutes later, but he shot wide from a tight angle.

Sean Skelly put in another good performance in midfield, his trickery gave him a half chance soon afterwards, but he shot wide. On 19 minutes Belvo 'keeper Craig Sexton was forced to make his only save of the match, he did well to keep out ex-Belvo player Karl Walsh's shot for range.

On 24 minutes there was a lengthy delay as the opposition's right back had to receive treatment for a back injury and had to be replaced. The free-kick resulting from that injury went over the crossbar. O'Rourke could have doubled his and his team's tally on 26 minutes, his first shot was blocked, while his second was well saved. Skelly smashed a low free-kick just wide of the far post, that in the 32nd minute.

Not to matter for the ex-Home Farm player as he got his second goal in two games for Belvo, three minutes later. His shot from 25 yards flew over the goalkeeper and into the net, with the help of a deflection, but the ball was going in anyway. And so at half-time, despite not playing at their best, Belvo were 2-0 ahead.

"Milky" had a good chance just after the restart, but he headed Skelly's corner wide from six yards. Prizeman had a pacey run minutes later, going past three defenders before seeing his shot saved.

On 57 minutes, Belvo went 3-0 in front. Graydon, Doherty and Prizeman linked up well down the right, with the latter swinging in a wonderful cross which O'Rourke headed into the top corner for his second goal of the game.

A minute later, Belvo made a substitution. Keith Buckley came on for O'Rourke. The sub almost made a instant impact when he volleyed wide with his first touch. After a contender for goal of the season last weekend Skelly scored an even better one this time out. He cracked a bullet of a shot from 30 yards which flew into the top corner, which the W.F.T.A. 'keeper could only stand and watch.

Belvo then made three changes. Captain Danny Joyce, who put in another solid performance at centre-back, striker Ross O'Connor who worked hard all day and Prizeman were replaced by Luke Dillon, Eric Grant and Graham Parkinson.

Mentions also for the versatile Mark Roche who switched from centre-back to left-back and did his job well. Graydon deputised well for Swords while Adam O'Brien also turned in a solid performance on the left side of midfield. John McMahon also did his job at centre-back, while Sexton was as ever a very imposing figure in goal.

Without really ever having to get out of second gear, and it must be said not wanting to, Belvo know their performance will improve for next weekend's match. Twelve goals scored in six matches and just one against, Belvo are looking forward to the remainder of the season.

Belvo team - Sexton, Graydon, Joyce (c) ( Parkinson, 62), McMahon, Roche, Prizeman ( Dillon, 62), Doherty, Skelly, O'Brien, O'Connor ( Grant, 62), O'Rourke (Buckley, 58)

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Belvedere F.C.  1 - 0 Cherry Orchard

After a draw with title rivals St. Kevin's last time out, Belvedere welcomed fellow challengers Cherry Orchard to Fairview Park on Saturday. Belvo picked
the same starting 11 as last weekend and with the pitch in great condition, the home side were confident of taking all three points.

It took Belvo less then three minutes to take the lead. Defender Anto Corcoran tipped the ball to midfielder Sean Skelly who smashed an unstoppable right-footed shot into the top corner of the net from 25 yards out. What a way to score your first goal for your new club !. A minute later Graham Parkinson had a effort, but he sliced his shot wide.

The first of many controversial refereeing decisions occured in the 13th minute when the ref adjudged that Belvo goalkeeper Craig Sexton had held the ball for more then six seconds and awarded the away side an indirect free-kick. Cherry Orchard worked it well but the eventual shot went well wide of the post.

Ten minutes later Orchard had another chance. A free-kick at the corner flag was whipped-in at pace, nobody wanted to touch it and it bounced inches past the far post and wide,.... a let off for Belvedere. Orchard were given another dubious free-kick on the edge of the box but the defensive wall did its job well to block the shot.

On 29 minutes Sean Prizeman had a chance when he ran through, but his shot from the edge of the box was well saved. Another curious decision went against Belvo when the ref yellow carded midfielder Dean O'Rourke for an accidental clash of heads. Corcoran was then booked for a foul in midfield after 46 minutes.

Seven minutes from time Skelly took a quick free-kick to Prizeman but his first shot was blocked, his second wide. Skelly played a clever short corner kick near the end  and broke through, but with Matt Doherty in space in the box, Skelly opted to shoot and his shot was blocked. After his cracking goal which turned out to be the winner, we will allow him that one.

Belvedere's Leigh Swords suffered a dead leg in the second half and had to limp off, he consequently missed the FAI training on Sunday. Paul Graydon came on to make his Belvo debut for the last 15 minutes.

Towards the end, the referee asked Belvo manager Derek O'Brien to leave the sideline as he protested against another bad foul on a Belvo player. It was ironic that O'Brien had to go as the opposing manager had threatened and insulted Belvedere players while treating an injured player earlier in the game.

Belvedere's Man of the Match was striker Ross O'Connor but captain Danny Joyce, fellow defender Mark Roche also had good games as did Parkinson, Prizeman and the rest of the Belvedere team.

Another clean sheet and a very good win for Belvedere, who sit pretty on top of the league table with four wins and a draw from their first five games, and a title challenge is definitely on the cards for "the boys in blue" this season.

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Belvedere F.C.  1 - 1 Saint Kevin's Boys

Following a good start to the season, three wins and three clean sheets, Belvedere faced their toughest test yet on Saturday, in the wet and windy Fairview Park, as they welcomed title rivals Saint Kevin's. Belvo made two changes to the starting line-up, Sean Prizeman otherwise known as "Milky" coming in for the injured Dylan Byrne and Dean O'Rourke replacing Adam O'Brien.

It was the visitors who had the first shot on target, a 25 yard effort was well saved by Belvo goalkeeper Craig Sexton. Four minutes later Belvo had their first opportunity, Prizeman and Leigh Swords played a nice one-two down the right with the latter clipping in a cross which was hacked clear from the goal-line, Ross O'Connor failed to capitalise on the rebound.

Captain Danny Joyce made a great saving tackle on 24 minutes, he slid across the box to block a goal-bound shot wide for a corner. Graham Parkinson had a effort a minute later, but it was easily saved.

Parkinson made a great run on 27 minutes, past three defenders but was then pulled down in the box, referee however said no penalty. The Kevin's number nine, Anthony Bolger shot over the crossbar from 18 yards, that on 31 minutes. The same player was then yellow carded for a bad foul in midfield on Sean Skelly.

Belvedere took the lead on the stroke of half time. O'Rourke took a quick throw-in, which was volleyed into the box by Anto Corcoran, and "Milky" rose highest at the back post to head over the 'keeper and into net, to give his side a 1-0 half-time lead.

Skelly himself was booked two minutes after the break, for a late tackle in midfield. He was lucky not to be sent off minutes later. The referee gave the away side a free-kick and the Belvo wall was not ten yards away, the referee shouted that if Kevin's hit the wall he would yellow card the player they hit. The league champions did just that but luckily for Belvo and for Skelly the ref booked a different player. The resulting free was hit wide.

Kevin's then made a substitution, Bolger was replaced by number 13, a player Belvo had enquired about signing in the summer. Parkinson, O'Connor and
Prizeman linked up well down the left on 45 minutes ending in O'Connor chipping just over the crossbar. Belvo had a great chance on 50 minutes.

Skelly smashed a 30-yard free-kick towards goal, which was saved, O'Connor smashed the rebound over from eight yards, when he should have scored. Swords shot wide of the near post shortly afterwards. Sexton had to make a save on 53 minutes. Joyce fouled on the edge of the box but the free-kick was well held by the ex-Lourdes Celtic goalkeeper.

Four minutes later it was 1-1. The Kevin's substitute nipped in to score after Mark Roche and Joyce had both slipped. Sexton made a great double save with ten minutes remaining. The first down to his left, the second a great one-on-one block after his throw-out had be intercepted. Belvo then made a change, Keith Buckley replaced O'Connor.

Prizeman forced a great save from the 'keeper on 64 minutes. He saw his 18 yard right-footed shot brilliantlly tipped around the post. Swords almost won the game for his side before the end. He curled a wonderful 20 yard free-kick over the wall only for it to crash off the bar and out.

A point a piece, probably a fair result but Belvo will be disappointed not to have taken all three points.

DDSL Under 14 Premier League

Templeogue United 0 - 2 Belvedere F.C.

After two wins out of two from their opening two games, and with no goals against, Belvedere arrived at Tymon Park in confident mood to take on Templeogue, who narrowly avoided relegation last season. Belvo made two changes to the team which won last weekend, Mark Roche and Adam O'Brien coming in for Johnny McMahon and Dean O'Rourke.

It took Belvedere onyl three minutes to take the lead on this sunny Saturday afternoon, Leigh Swords floated a ball into the box which the goalkeeper let through his hands, the ball bounced off the post but Ross O'Connor was on hand to tap-in from range to give his side an early advantage, his second goal of the season.

Right-back Swords whipped in another dangerous cross just two minutes later, unfortunately for his side, O'Connor nor O'Brien could make contact.

Graham Parkinson broke away after 12 minutes, but his progress was halted by a foul, the resulting free-kick was tipped over the bar by the 'keeper, Swords again the taker. Parkinson had another chance on 18 minutes, he saw his shot well saved by the 'keeper and his rebound found O'Connor in the box, the busy goalkeeper however managed to get back and smother the ball on the line.

On 33 minutes Belvo brilliantly doubled their lead. Midfielder Sean Skelly played a lovely ball to the back post and his midfield partner Matt Doherty nipped in ahead of the defender to finish well from six yards. At half time with Belvo dominating possession, it was 2-0.

Minutes after the restart Skelly made a great run down the right, his cut-back found Parkinson who blazed over from 12 yards. Two minutes later, Danny Joyce committed a foul, the ball was curled into the box and the Templeogue number nine headed wide unchallenged from six yards when he should have done better. Swords, Dylan Bynre and Skelly linked up well on 42 minutes, that ended with O'Connor having a left-footed effort well saved by the goalkeeper.

On 47 Belvo made a substitution, O'Rourke coming on to replace a tired O'Connor, and the big striker didn't take long to get involved, his shot two minutes later was easily saved. Skelly flashed a free-kick wide on 55 minutes. Belvo then made four subs in quick succession Luke Dillon, Keith Buckley, Johnny McMahon and Eric Grant coming on to replace, Byrne, O'Brien, Doherty and Swords.

Four minutes from time Belvo had their last chance, Skelly and Dillon worked a nice short corner, Joyce then passed to McMahon but the big defender shot over the crossbar from 18 yards.

Three wins out of three, eight goals scored and three clean sheets, Belvo sit top of the table this weekend, two points clear of nearest rivals St. Kevin's.

Belvo team - Sexton, Swords ( McMahon, 60), Joyce, Roche, Corcoran, Byrne ( Dillon, 60 ), O'Brien ( Buckley, 60 ), Doherty ( Grant, 60 ), Skelly, Parkinson, O'Connor ( O'Rourke, 47 )

D.D.S.L. Under 14 Premier League

Belvedere F.C. 2 - 0 Stella Maris

After a comfortable opening 4-0 win last weekend, Belvedere were expecting a much harder game as local rivals Stella Maris travelled to Fairview on Saturday afternoon for Belvo's first home game of the season.

Belvo made three changes to their starting 11 from last week, Dylan Byrne and Dean O'Rourke coming in on the flanks to replace Sean Prizeman and Adam O'Brien while Johnny McMahon partnered Danny Joyce at centre-back with the Mark Roche dropping to the bench.

Belvo thought they had taken the lead after just eight minutes, Graham Parkinson's cross-shot was turned in by Ross O'Connor only for the goal to be disallowed for offside.

Two minutes later Dean O'Rourke had a very good chance, Leigh Swords played a great cross field ball to the back-post which found an unmarked O'Rourke but he unfortunately put the bouncing ball over the crossbar.

Midfielder Sean Skelly was booked for a late challenge after 12 minutes which meant he was walking the tightrope until the end of the game.

From the resulting free-kick Stella cleverly tried to beat 'keeper Craig Sexton at his near post but "Seco" covered it well.

Four minutes later Belvo were rewarded for their good start. Dylan Byrne won the ball in midfield and passed to Swords, his powerful shot was only parried by the goalkeeper and Ross O'Connor was on hand to tap-in from close range, scoring his first goal of the season since singing from Home Farm.

Anto Corcoran's crosses caused the defence problems all day and his corner was headed wide of the far post by Matt Doherty, that on 22 minutes.

On 26 minutes Stella had their best chance so far, a long ball caused problems in the Belvo box and their striker headed over from six yards when he should have hit the target.

Swords, Byrne and O'Connor linked up well down the right moments later, which led to Skelly being pulled down in the box, but the referee however said no penalty. At half time Belvo were deservedly 1-0 ahead.

A minute after the break McMahon was robbed of possession in his own half, the number nine's shot from 18 yards clipped the outside of the post and wide, a major let-off for the centre back and his team.

Skelly, again had a decent penalty claim turned down on 40 minutes, this time he was pushed to the
ground. Sexton made his first save of the match on 45 minutes, smothering a deflected shot.

Seco had to be alive again two minutes later, another ball over-the-top found an opposition player unmarked but the former Lourdes' 'keeper was quickly off his line to clear the danger.

Stella had two more long-range efforts on 48 and 50 minutes which failed to threaten the goal. Swords took a free-kick on 53 minutes, it fizzed just over the bar from 25 yards.

Belvo made two changes in quick succession, O'Brien came on to replace the tired O'Rourke while McMahon came off for Roche. The skillfull Graham Parkinson took out the tricks towards the end, he had four defenders chasing him but the shot just wide.

O'Connor had another shot well saved while at the other end Sexton easily saved a free-kick, Prizeman came on to replace O'Connor, on 66 minutes and Milky got his goal with one of his first involvements in the game, he finished well from eight yards after a great Swords run and cross.

Belvo then made their final substitution, with Luke Dillon came on the replace man of the match, Matt Doherty.

Another convincing Belvedere performance and a second clean sheet in a row, Belvo can’t wait for their next game to come. Final score Belvo 2-0 Stella.

D.D.S.L. Under 14 Premier League

W.F.T.A. 0 - 4 Belvedere FC.

Belvedere arrived in Finglas in confident mood ahead of their first league game of the season. With the summer signings of goalkeeper Craig Sexton from Lourdes Celtic, Sean Skelly, Matt Doherty and Ross O'Connor from Home Farm, Belvo were hopeful of a title challenge this season.

The first ten minutes of the game were very scrappy with the wet and windy weather causing problems for both teams. Belvedere with the wind behind them failed to cause the opposition any real problems in their defensive third.

W.F.T.A. created the first chance of the game after 13 minutes when Mark Roche missed a header and Danny Joyce failed to win the ball, before the number 10 went through on goal and shot wide from 16 yards.

Sean Skelly created his side's first chance as he burst through but saw his shot saved by the goalkeeper.

Five minutes later, Belvedere were awarded a free-kick which Leigh Swords took, and the ball eventually found its way to Graham Parkinson who shot just wide.

O'Connor had an effort after 33 minutes, his attempt was saved after a bad kick-out by the goalkeeper.

Belvo were starting to take control of the game and Skelly had another chance a few minutes later, but he rushed his effort from 25 yards and shot wide.

On the stroke of half time Belvedere deservedly took the lead. Joyce found Sexton, who then hit a long ball up the pitch to O'Connor and he then flicked on to Sean Prizeman. He played a nice one-two with Parkinson, the cross found winger Adam O'Brien who brilliantly volleyed into the top corner to give Belvo a 1-0 lead at half time.

Belvo picked up where they left off after the break, Skelly had two more shots from distance, both just wide. Three minutes later it was 2-0, as Parkinson went one-on-one after a Skelly pass and cleverly slotted past the advancing 'keeper.

Prizeman then linked up well with full-back Leigh Swords down the right wing and his cross just evaded the reach of a sliding O'Connor inside the six-yard box.

Prizeman had a shot himself a minute later, and he forced a great save from the 'keeper. However, he wasn't to be denied as "Milky" got his goal on 50 minutes, as his cheeky chip from 18 yards found the roof of the net to make it 3-0.

Belvo then made a double substitution, as Dylan Byrne and Dean O'Rourke came on to replace O'Brien and Parkinson.

Byrne had a shot on 53 minutes, and it re-bounded off a defender and into the path of Skelly, but he shot over. Swords then had a 30 yard free-kick tipped over the bar, ten minutes from time.

On 63 minutes, O'Rourke pounced in the box to make it 4-0, tapping in from close range. Luke Dillon and Keith Buckley then came on for Belvo replacing Skelly and O'Brien.

Goalkeeper Sexton made a good save from a free-kick on 65 minutes, after having a solid game throughout. Matt Doherty, also making his debut, shot just wide from 18 yards after a very impressive first game in the blue of Belvo.

Four goals, four debuts, a clean sheet and three points for Belvo, a great start to the new season and Belvo will be full of confidence for the season ahead.

Belvo team - Sexton, Swords, Corcoran, Joyce, Roche, Prizeman, O'Brien (Buckley, 63), Skelly (Dillon, 63), Doherty, O'Connor (O'Rourke, 50), Parkinson (Byrne, 50)
