Belvedere Football Club International Highlights for Season 2005/06

JUNE 2005:

Republic of Ireland Under 15’s play two games in Tournament in Tenerife. They lose first game to Spain 2-3 and win second game 3-0 against Belgium. KEVIN DAWSON plays all of Belgium game.

JULY 2005:

JOHN CONNELLAN and JAMES O’SULLIVAN play for Irish under 18’s in Youth Olympic Tournament in Italy. Ireland lose to Italy 2-4 but win against Finland 1-0 and Switzerland 4-2 finishing third in Tournament.

BRENDAN DAWSON, DANIEL ENNIS and TIMMY PURCELL play for the Leinster Youths in Westphalia, Germany.

DANIEL LANGAN plays for FAI U.16 Development Squad in Foyle Cup.

DANIEL LANGAN and KEVIN DAWSON play for FAI Under 16 Development Squad in Dublin Cup at the AUL Complex.

AUGUST 2005:

Irish Under 17’s beat Norway 3-2 in Group game of Nordic Cup in Iceland. Current Belvedere players KARL BYRNE, KILLIAN SHERIDAN and VINCENT WHELAN play together with former Belvedere player GARRY BREEN (Man.City). Ireland go on to defeat Iceland and Denmark in their Group and beat England 2-0 in the Final.

Galway Cup Under 16 FAI Emerging Talent squad includes DANIEL CORCORAN who ends up leading goal scorer as well as GARY O’TOOLE, DAVID CONNOLLY and MITCHELL CASEY.

STEPHEN ELLIOTT gains his fourth Senior cap for Ireland in friendly home International against Italy.

Irish Under 19’s play two away games versus Bulgaria, both finish in draws. MARK KEANE and STEPHEN HENDERSON play in a game each.

Irish under 15 Development Squad win the St.Joseph’s Boys ‘Hibernian Cup’ tournament defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers in Final. NEIL HARNEY and STEPHEN RELIHAN play.

SEPTEMBER 2005:

Irish Under 21 team lose 1-2 to France in UEFA Championship game in Cork. STEPHEN KELLY and ALAN SHEAHAN play.

DANIEL LANGAN plays in Irish Under 16 1-0 win over Wales away.

DANIEL LANGAN plays in Irish Under 16 1-1 away draw with Switzerland

Irish Under 17 team compete in four Nation UEFA 1st Qualifying group in Kiev, Ukraine. Belvedere players KARL BYRNE and KILLIAN SHERIDAN and former players PAUL CAHILLANE (Celtic) and GARY BREEN (Man.City) play in all games, except for Karl missing the game versus Latvia. Ireland win Group by defeating Ukraine 2-1, Latvia 2-0 and drawing with Italy 2-2.

OCTOBER 2005:

KARL BERMINGHAM gains first under 21 Cap for Ireland in 1-1 draw away to Cyprus in European U.21 Championships.

Ireland defeat Cyprus 1-0 in away World Cup game in Limassol. STEPHEN ELLIOTT gains 5th cap and scores only goal of game.

Under 19’s compete in 4 Nation mini-group between Ireland, Italy, Moldova and Northern Ireland. Ireland defeat Northern Ireland 2-1 in first game. MARK KEANE starts but unfortunately breaks his leg. Ireland go on to defeat Moldova 3-0 and Italy 4-1. STEPHEN HENDERSON was second keeper but did not play.

STEPHEN ELLIOTT gains 6th Full cap in World Cup qualifying 0-0 draw with Switzerland in Dublin.

Irish under 16’s were unbeaten in Val du Marne Tournament held in Paris. They drew 1-1 with both Portugal and France and beat Norway 3-2. DANIEL LANGAN plays in games against Portugal and Norway.

DECEMBER 2005:

Irish Under 15’s play two games away versus Netherlands.

NEIL HARNEY plays in both games. Ireland narrowly lost both matches.

JANUARY 2006:

Former Belvedere player WESLEY HOOLAHAN is transferred for Stg £110,000 from Shelbourne to Scottish Premier league Club Livingston.
